About this deal

For your first session, we recommend starting out on the third heat setting, or three red petals. That should produce a decent amount of visible vapor. As the session starts to thin out, you can raise it to the fourth heat setting to finish it off. Short, light puffs The grind consistency that everyone is used to from a common 4-piece grinder will work with most vaporizers, but if you really want maximum performance you need to grind your herb even finer than that. I also still enjoy mine as much as I did when I first got it and it’s now summer 2016, so it’s definitely a solid choice and I think you’ll be really happy with it.

The output of the adapter you use will affect how long the battery takes to charge. If you charge via USB through a computer for example you’re looking at about 3 hours to 100% charge. However, if you use a 2A wall adapter then charge time to 100% is reduced to about 2 hours. In less than 60 seconds the petals will turn solid green to indicate the PAX 2 has reached the desired temperature and it’s ready for you to take draws. To change the PAX temperature setting, press down on the mouthpiece for a couple seconds and the unit will enter ‘temperature mode’. One thing that stood out to me on the aesthetics of the device, is that the PAX 2 no longer has that pop out mouthpiece, so I will be interested to see how the draw has been affected by this change. The new mouthpiece features lip sensing motion technology that optimizes power and temperature during use. It will be very interesting to see if this feature works well and provides for a good draw (Update* having received the device the kit also features a protruded mouthpiece which can be swapped with the standard flat one). It’s a very well-rounded, good looking, good performing vape. It has also proven to be extremely reliable, I’ve received virtually zero defect complaints and the original unit shown in my review still works like new. I brought the unit to a family members house over Easter and that was the first thing he commented on. “Man, that thing really smells….” At that point I became more noticeable to me. I had about 5 sessions through it being brand new and never cleaned. I used it yesterday a bit and had it sitting on my kitchen table and noticed the smell of vape/resin in the kitchen. Mind you the oven was empty. I then had it laying on my bed while I was changing to take the dog for a walk and again the bedroom stunk really bad. After taking the original Pax with me EVERYWHERE I have noticed the Pax 2 has more of an odor with it and I cannot bring it anywhere with me. Very bummed about that.

No stirring

Once the lights turn green, you can start taking some puffs on the PAX 2. If you’re using the flat mouthpiece, place your lips around the edge of the vape, over the hole in the mouthpiece. Start with some short, light draws, like sipping on a cup of hot tea. To quote their CMO “We redesigned the PAX 2 to have both the lip-sensing, and a new heating algorithm that adjusts temperature dynamically based on how you use it. We also focused the temp algorithm on the materials themselves, rather than the oven temp, to make sure the draw was consistent from first to last.”

The oven, despite being deeper, is 91% the size of the original oven, due to it being slightly thinner. It still holds a good amount of herbs. In less than 60 seconds the petals will turn solid green to indicate the PAX 2 has reached the desired temperature and it’s ready for you to take draws. To change the PAX 2 temperature setting, press down on the mouthpiece for a couple seconds and the unit will enter ‘temperature mode’. Next you take the screen and with the bottom of the U facing down place it on top of your material in the oven. The screen’s job is to take up the extra space in the chamber while keeping some pressure on your material so that it stays pressed against the base and walls of the oven.Vapor does leak from the bottom and top of the unit and the smell lingers. If you are vaping outside, you would just need to conceal the dense vapor exhales to feel comfortable, but vaping inside discreetly would certainly be a challenge because of the distinct smell produced. Users that want little to no odor from their device while vaping, even indoors, prefer units like the Utillian Utillian 722. Charging Times– Not only does the Pax 2 give you above-average battery life from a single charge, but it also charges faster than a lot of other units. I’ve found the Pax 2 to fully charge from dead in about 100 minutes. To turn the PAX 2 on, simply press the center of the mouthpiece one time. The LED lights, or ‘petals’ as Ploom refers to them as, will begin to pulse purple to indicate the unit is heating up. This is different with the new model, it takes a little longer to charge now but the battery lasts longer. Without constant up-keep the oven screen will be near impossible to easily pop out and and it will retain the baked on residue. So, for a unit in this price range, we would have liked it to be much lower maintenance, similar to the Zeus Arc S Hubwhich features a removable vapor pathway.

The vapor it produces is smooth and comfortable, and definitely a little better than the original. There are 4 temperature settings with this one – levels 2 and 3 seem to provide the best experience in my opinion and at these temps the vapor never really gets harsh unless you draw longer than about 8 seconds. So every PAX 2 is capable of some hidden features. Apparently not every PAX 2 will feature Simon mode, so you need to see if yours does or not. There are a load of hidden features and below are a few that I have found on my PAX 2. Also according to PAX labs CMO, not every PAX 2 firmware will be the same and will be set to random. So you will just have to play around with your to see what you can find! Pax 2 Mouthpiece Options– I really like the discretion and concealment offered with the flat mouthpiece design. The mouthpiece is completely different from the original Pax model and it sits flush with the top. There’s basically no way that you could tell what it was because it doesn’t have a mouthpiece. When the little piece of metal arrived, I loaded up my Pax 2 for a test drive. Wow, what an improvement: big clouds with good initial flavor and long sessions. The combination of grinding the material to a fine powder and using the pusher and replacement screen–to create a tight seal with good ventilation– significantly improved the Pax 2 performance. BONUS the old Pax charger will unplug from the base and plug into the new magnetic USB charging on the Pax 2. So you can charge the Pax 2 directly from the wall with your old Pax charger which is pretty cool. Pax 2 Accessories

To switch to a different mode, just rotate your unit another three times using the method shown in the video. Here are the different modes that can be accessed via the rolling method: Classic Party Mode

Next, don’t exit the app, but cycle through the various temperature settings before you select the one you prefer. In addition to displaying the battery charge, the petals also indicate the PAX 2’s current temperature status and setting. Press the button on top of the mouthpiece to turn it on. The lights will turn purple and flow upwards as the PAX 2 heats up, and turn green when it reaches your target temperature. To change the temperature, hold down the button for one second, press it to cycle through the different heat options, and shake to finalize your selection. The PAX 2 has four temperature setting to choose from: Performance is pretty damn good considering how small this thing is. The amount of vapor you can get and the quality of it is definitely above average for a portable, and it does perform a little better than the original (when it’s clean :P). I really like how it performs well with both short and long draw durations, this allows people with different draw styles (like my wife and I) to both have a good experience when vaping together. So the PAX 2 is said to be able to detect your lips on the mouthpiece and “optimize heat and vapor production” for the best performance. I do think the new model performs better than the original so maybe they’re actually on to something with this, I guess I just don’t fully understand how this is even possible, but hey I’m no engineer! ;)
