About this deal

So what happened? I sat down at my desk today and started doing the spreads included in the book. As is often the case, cards look different laid out in spreads. Or maybe it’s just that I look at them differently. In any case, seeing them in spreads and reading the explanation for the artistic choices made on each card changed everything. Suddenly, the artwork that I thought was “meh” came to life and I managed to get my head around what I was looking at. All of a sudden I thought they were brilliant. I’m leaving out the keyword, and looking at Pisces instead.) I have to be aware that there is more to abundance than just what I said above, work hard and be sensible in spending. There are hidden motivations and processes at work in the economy; the invisible hand can easily turn into an invisible foot applied to my savings!

Oracle of the Radiant Sun - Caroline Smith, John Astrop

In the March 2015 spot (far left of layout above the April 2014 card) the Acquisition card Sun in Taurus suggests female L will come into some money or at the very least something of value. This card also shows a minor dispute over possessions. In general, the artwork of these cards is very abstract, but also in some cases very graphic, especially the Lovers (or Choice, as Ms. Smith names it). I would therefore not recommend it for very young Tarot users or for the “sensitive” viewer who is easily upset by graphic nudity. Nevertheless, the cards are beautifully illustrated: devotees of abstract art are most likely to find the images appealing. Saturn in Aries: Risk. A boy, worldly possessions over his shoulder, bravely passes a menacing bear. The North American Indian fetish is a protection against danger. A key symbolizes Aries' boldness in opening doors, and a starred tree the fruits of Martian courage."Here’s Scorpio getting a bad rap again. I need to know and communicate when things are way out of line. This makes me think of politics. Things are just so out there and scary right now. I need to understand and communicate that! Smith has designed the cards to follow the basic structure of the commonly accepted Tarot. This means there are 78 cards in total (22 majors, 16 courts and 40 pips). There is an emphasis on progressive reading, led by symbols, and for this reason the authors have decided to omit the traditional symbolism of Wands, Pentacles, Swords and Cups in favour of directly relating to the four elements. In this logic, the Major Arcana has been related to the fifth element, Spirit and can be seen as the child of the four suits when combined together. These are the inner qualities of the person asking for the reading, manifesting in their life. All pip cards are titled with an elemental based keyword i.e. ‘Breeze’(Three of Air), ‘Clay’ (Four of Earth). The system in place owes much to Paul Marteau, combining a number interpretation alongside the elemental quality of the suit. This oracle system boasts seven distinct suits, each representing a crucial planet as it navigates through the astrological zodiac. By exploring the significance of the planets in the twelve astrological houses and zodiac signs, you will gain an in-depth understanding of their meanings and how they apply to your life.

Book Review – The Sacred Herbs of Yule and Christmas: Remedies, Recipes, Magic & Brews for the Winter Season by Ellen Evert Hopman Each card has a yellow card image, flanked by the House number and keyword title in bold with the planet and sign underneath on one side and the relevant symbols and the keyword for the planet and the sign on the other. Beneath in italics is a description of the card illustration which really helped me to connect with the cards. Next, presented in two columns below is the information about the card. Firstly, information is given from a personal perspective ie how someone with Saturn in Aries would present. This is followed by a paragraph on ‘when this card is drawn in a reading’ and finally there’s a section titled ‘Events’ which suggests potential events linked to the placement. PS. This layout is quite detailed so I would just lay out 12 cards and then add one card to each house. For example: Scorpio really gets a bad rap; I feel sorry for Scorpio suns. I don’t own up to any manipulation, that’s just not me. I don’t really have hidden depths, not as they relate to other people, anyway. Now, being victim of manipulation, I can definitely relate. Maybe that’s the connection: it took me much too long to figure out what was going on there! Book says interest in psychology and mysticism, exploring hidden secrets of life. That sounds more like me!Week 1: Inspiration. Mercury in Pisces. This card reveals female L already knows many of the answers which appear this month. She may be refusing to face up to it. This is a card of excuses.

If you selected SCYTHE then there would be some sudden upheavals in health or everyday work. Everyday work can be on the job if it is not a career per say. Well, it all seems to make sense. It’s helpful to use the keyword, but if it doesn’t fit, I can go to the planets and signs themselves! I won’t go through the entire Reading but will select certain months to write about which I think are of interest. The Health card rules health and also work as stated above. If you selected the HOUSE card it could indicate that a family member is involved. If the card was the FOX this can suggest something is wrong in the areas depicted by 6th House. FOX is also about strategy so a restructuring could be going on …and so on. The theme of the reading would revolve around this although not every house card will tie in perfectly. The theme is a major highlight. Any of the months could expand on it.

Interesting. I think I said this before for this card in another reading, but. I need to trust my intuition but not put complete faith in any idea that pops into my head. Temperance indeed. This matches well with the first card. When “all this” is over, I will seriously consider some educational travel and maybe classes. Spend some money on learning. Better still, the book gives examples of how to integrate all the information both as far as ‘Reading the Associations’ goes and later when explaining the spreads. In other words they don’t just throw information at you. They demonstrate how to integrate the information in a practical sense. This book is definitely beginner-friendly. As an astrologer, I was dubious about what the cards could do when I first got them. I have come to love their imagery and the many ways to work with them. The sample year readings provided are great and useful for working with clients as a complement to progression, transits and solar return readings. I have also used them working with a client to pin down an ascendant or moon placement when they aren’t sure of their birthtime. I cannot recommend these cards highly enough for Tarot readers, practiced or astrologers-in-training, those curious about planetary and house meanings or simply lovers of beautiful objects! Venus in Sagittarius: Flirtation. A travelling minstrel serenades a beautiful young huntress. The lute symbolizes the pleasure-loving nature of Venus, and the bow the far-seeking adventurousness of Sagittarius."
