About this deal

Other than that, Deception has made a permanent home in our game closet. What could these clues possibly mean? If a player has attempted to solve the crime incorrectly, they must surrender their Badge token to the Forensic Scientist, indicating that they have used their one attempt to solve the crime. Clues and cards are used to solve the murder as the players attempt to identify the murderer and figure out what happened. It is the forensic scientist who knows everything about the investigation, but he cannot tell the investigator what he/she is looking for. A deception is a board game in which the murderer has the choice of which combination of weapons to use and which clues to give investigators. The clues are crafted from various elements of a specific crime. The game should not have become too severe due to the amount of time it took for them to accumulate. The Deception Card Game allows players to choose one of four possible answers for 20 minutes. The majority of the time, most players do not play the game until they have finished looking at all of their cards. The next round then begins. However, this time the Forensic Scientist draws just one Scene tile and replaces one of the existing Scene tiles and its marker on a new piece of evidence. We’ll assign the Forensic Scientist card then randomize the rest. And in our subsequent play (because we know there will be another game) that role will move one player to the left with the other roles still being randomized.

Players should take a moment to look at everyone’s means and clue cards, bit any art on the cards is for reference and only the text should influence investigators thought and opinions. Roles There were seven cases of homicide in Hong Kong in the first four months of 2022, which marked three cases – or 75 per cent – more than the same period last year. A recent notable case involved a man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend and was caught pushing her quilt-wrapped body on a wheel board along the street. When playing with the Protective Detail, the Forensic Scientist will need to inject the following into their setting up of "The Crime" after they have identified the Witness: "Protective Detail, open your eyes". The eight new scene cards also add a whole other avenue of discussion to the base game. Deception: Undercover Allies Unboxing Deception: Murder in Hong KongDeception: Murder in Hong Kong brings together all the best aspects of a social deduction game to create a fast-paced and fascinating whodunnit. When an Investigator does that successfully, the crime is solved and the Forensic Scientist and the Investigators win the game. We love the unique game play of deducing a pair of cards from vague clues given by the Forensic Scientist. Deception in Hong Kong is a murder mystery game where one of the players is the murderer. Players will each have one secret roll from an investigator, witness, accomplice, or the murderer. Depending on what role you get changes your win condition. Did I mention that everyone only gets one actual guess at the right answer? That’s necessary to make the game somewhat challenging, but it makes the guessing to game time ratio very small compared to its peers. In Codenames your team gets a handful of guesses over a 10-15 minute game. In Mysterium each person gets about 7 guesses in a 45 minute game. Deception gives everyone one guess in 20 minutes of playtime at a minimum, depending on how much discussion you allow. Subtle Investigation

As the game master, the Forensic Scientist holds the solution to the crime. They are responsible for assisting the Investigators in identifying the “Key Evidence” and “Means of Murder.” When an Investigator does that successfully, the crime is solved and the Forensic Scientist and the Investigators win the game. Special roles like the forensic scientist have access to the solution but can only communicate using special scene tiles while the rest of the group interpret the evidence.

Crime Scene

Mechanically, nothing changes in the game. The Forensic Scientist still must truthfully respond to attempts to solve the crime. They must still remain silent. After the sixth marker is placed and the last piece of evidence has been discussed each player will get the chance to voice their thoughts on certain clues or means. This starts with the player left of the forensic scientist and ends with the person on their right. No one may talk or defend themselves during another players presentation. These will last about 30 seconds but can no longer dependent on what is decided before the game. Return to the game box all Event tiles, which are used as a variant. Deal 4 Clue cards and 4 Means cards to each player. The players display their own 8 cards face up in front of themselves, with the texts and graphics facing the other players so they can all be seen. Players should take a moment to glance through all the Clue and Means cards on the table. Throughout the game, players will pitch theories of the murder as a they suss out the criminal in their midst. For example, if the crime took place in the forest, an ax might make sense as a murder weapon (because they were chopping trees right beforehand, obviously). If they’re really confident, they can give up their their badge and make a dramatic accusation, winning the game if they get it right. But if they get it wrong, they are relegated to the status of the grizzled old private detective: sure, you can pitch your wild theories all you want, but you no longer have the ability to arrest the criminal yourself.

As long as one of the Investigators correctly identifies both the "Key Evidence" and "Means of Murder", the Murderer is arrested and the Investigators win the game as does the Forensic Scientist.

Setup

During the game, the Forensic Scientist is NOT allowed to hint to the solution with words, gestures, or eyes. When the crime takes place, the Murderer chooses 1 Clue card and 1 Means card as the solution to the crime. These will be the "Key Evidence" and "Means of Murder" respectively. The Forensic Scientist can place the bullets as fast or slowly as he’d like. In many cases it helps to wait for the Investigators to discuss current clues before adding more. This way he can direct the discussions toward the correct cards. At any point during the game, an Investigator can shout “Let me solve the crime!” and have a go at winning the game. Once they have declared an attempt, they then choose one Clue card and one Means card in front of a player.
