About this deal

The crown action feels nice and smooth when you’re setting the time, but it’s a little difficult to grip when the crown is recessed and you just want to wind the movement. Attrazione:** Questo orologio attira tanta attenzione e trasmette un valore ben superiore al suo costo. È un simbolo di eleganza e sofisticazione. I love the CIGA Design U Series, even though I can’t imagine many occasions I would wear it. It’s beautifully made, with exceptional design and really does provide a talking point. The downside of this bespoke design is that it costs as much as a mid-ranged Swiss-made tool watch that would be more versatile and arguably retain better resale value. But if you want to buy a dive watch you aren’t shopping for a CIGA Design Blue Planet. This is a watch that screams “look at me” and will provide a talking point and I am sure there will be few similar watches in your collection. Highly recommended. Legibility on this watch is quite poor. It can be challenging to determine which markers the compass is pointing to. On top of that, the numerals are tiny. They’re probably the smallest out of any watch I’ve ever worn. Overall, the design is cool, but I find myself missing the sense of motion you get from a traditional three hander’s second sweep. Since there’s no seconds indicator, there isn’t really a way to know if the watch is running at a glance. The World on Your Wrist - Inspired by "Blue Marble" the first photograph of Earth as a whole taken from space in 1972. Micro-engraved the earth's terrain on the dial, showing natural elements such as land, mountains and oceans. Unique single pointer design, indicating the time in a way that simulates the rotation of the earth. Means to awaken people's awareness of protecting the earth's environment. In my opinion, the Blue Planet we’ll be reviewing today is the standout piece in their collection, both for its aesthetics and mechanics, and we’ll see why.

Pliable and fitting, anti-microbial and wear-resisting dial Integrated color and natural texture strap.

Innovative Time Telling - When the hour hand rotates 30°, the minute hand rotates 390°. This innovative change in the gear ratio of the traditional movement means the watch can indicate both the hour and minute with a single pointer. This ingenious solution transforms the conventional way of time-telling. I applaud the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) for assuring that the Challenge Prize given to watches under 3500 CHF each year is one of the most exciting categories. I also applaud 2021’s GPHG’s judges for seeing past the typical big brand dazzle and recognizing the accomplishment of China’s CIGA Design in creating the Blue Planet. I think the watch deserves the accolades it got. What Makes It Special Covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that is bound to last long and reveals every detail on the dial. I’m not sure if it’s a defect in the electroplating, or just a smudge on the surface. To be fair, I only noticed it after closely examining the watch under a bright lamp. Acting as the minute hand, the inner ring displays a 60 minute scale. To tell the time, you look at the respective numbers the compass is pointing to on each ring.

The message is almost there

The globe is carved in relief and looks great from all angles. The contrast between the electroplated ocean and topographic landmasses serves to create a real sense of depth. Framing the Earth are the minute and hour scales. It’s time to rethink Chinese watches. There is still a cloud that hangs over watches from China, a cloud of dismissive judgment that automatically assumes that if it’s (openly) made in China, it can’t be of any merit. The irony, of course, is that many of the high-end brands we hold dear outsource some or most of their manufacturing to the country. But more and more, Chinese brands are proving those assumptions wrong and demonstrating that the country has horological prowess beyond shadow manufacturing. In fact, brands like CIGA Design are winning awards–and not just participation ribbons. For the incredibly novel CIGA Design Blue Planet watch, the brand was the first Chinese winner of any award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève—the Oscars of the watch world—beating out the likes of Oris and Doxa to take home the Challenge Award in 2021. Inspired by our responsibility to preserve the world around us, the Blue Planet doesn’t just impress with its three-dimensional representation of our planet—it presents a new way of displaying the time. A refine ceramic case with a sense of wholeness, lustrous finish, smooth & silky touch, resistance, and lightweight. If the product has no quality problems, the cost of returning the product such as freight, customs duties and other costs shall be borne by the consumer. Comparing it to a stone made smooth by erosion seems fitting of the theme. While the case is practically featureless, I think it suits the watch.

CIGA Design Blue Planet - Fratello Watches Hands-On Review: The CIGA Design Blue Planet - Fratello Watches

I would’ve loved it if the globe rotated once every 24 hours as well. The rotation would not be accurate to Earth’s actual movement with the vantage point chosen for the Blue Planet, but it would’ve taken the metaphor and the mechanics just that one step further. CIGA Design evolves an all-new understanding of the Blue Planet. As a symbol of the enduring nature of eternity, gold has stood the test of time for millennia and mustn't be overlooked. With the debut of pure gold and masterful craftsmanship, the Blue Planet Gilded Age is a fusion of all the experience we have gained since creating the brand. It was born to be striking, both technically and aesthetically. On the wrist, the Blue Planet wears wonderfully. The soft curve of the case and supple rubber strap definitely place it on the more comfortable end of the spectrum as watches go. The titanium case keeps the ensemble light enough, yet still substantial. And although the diameter is officially 46mm, with no lugs to speak of, the Blue Planet wears as well as any mid-size watch with a similar lug-to-lug measurement. I have a smaller wrist and didn’t experience any discomfort or overhang. The intricate dial, crafted with micro-craving and multi-layer 24K gilding, reproduces the Earth in the same continent-and-ocean ratio and depicts the real altitude of the terrain. The ceramic strap comes with a push-button butterfly clasp. Modern design ergonomically frees every move on your wrist.
