About this deal

They are called mono cables because they can only send one signal. So, if you want to use TS cables for stereo audio, you’ll need two cables. On the other hand, the TS cable is suitable for a mono instrument such as a guitar. The tip of the TS cable transmits the signals. The TRS cable often uses an additional conductor for transmitting balanced and audio signals and connecting a voltage divider.

For live shows, XLR may not offer the same benefit as TRS because of its rather short length. However, XLR can provide more robust and balanced audio without catching too much noise. XLR also provides a more secure connection, whereas TRS connection loosens in time. If interference develops along the cable, it’s likely to have the same effect on both signals since the positive and negative conductors are in close physical proximity (and are constructed similarly, i.e., they have the same impedance)—when the negative signal is re-inverted and added to the positive signal, any common interference will cancel outEspecially for our pedals it’s good to know what you really can do with them. Splitting, balancing, stereo applications, etc… A typical balanced cable contains two identical wires, which are twisted together and then wrapped with a third conductor (foil or braid) that acts as a shield. The two wires form a circuit that can carry an audio signal. This means that any of the unwanted noise that you would get in an unbalanced cable is silenced as the sound wave emerges from your monitor speakers. This is why the cables are referred to as ‘balanced’. Very clever stuff! The name, Cloom Tech, is synonymous with excellence in delivering the right result when you expect it.

XLR can filter out noise for a more clean sound. It is also highly compatible with microphones. These make XLR cable an ideal choice for studio recording. Balanced and unbalanced circuits can be interfaced by the use of a balun, often through a DI unit (also called a "DI box" or "direct box"). Once you’ve identified the ports on your audio devices, choose the appropriate balanced audio cable. XLR Connectors Less Likely to Short Out: XLR connectors don’t short out during connection. TRS can short out and you risk blowing out your fancy ribbon microphone with a preamp when you have phantom power turned on while TRS is plugged in. XLR can be safer to use in such a scenario, especially if you leave phantom on (which isn’t advised anyway, but it’s something you should consider). In the photo below of my Scarlett Focusrite 2i4 audio interface, a very popular interface in many home music studios, you can see I have the option of ¼ inch speaker outputs on the very right which are handily labeled ‘balanced’. But I don’t have the option of an XLR connection here. In general, balanced cables tend to be priced slightly higher than unbalanced, simply due to them having slightly fewer parts. Any longer than that and you will have to deal with unnecessary cable length that will just get in your way and possibly add unwanted noise to the signal chain. For Smaller Spaces The XLR cables possess three wires, just like the TRS cables. Unlike the TRS cables, the XLR cables are mostly unsuitable for applications. The term balanced comes from the method of balancing the impedance of each wire in the circuit; the line and all circuits directly connected to it (such as the driver and receiver) must have identical impedances with respect to some reference point. This means that much of the electromagnetic interference will induce an equal noise voltage in each wire. Since the differential device at the receiving end only responds to the difference in voltage between the two signal lines, noise that is identical on both wires is rejected. This method can be implemented with a differential amplifier. A transformer may also be used instead of an active input stage.
