About this deal

I have been against ten power binoculars since I first started birding, but the 32mm Ultravids are very easy to hold steady, even though, when I first tested them, they seemed too small for my hands. But birding in Arizona especially convinced me that I needed more power; there were too many times when I wished I could see just a little more detail to positively ID a bird (and the wide open spaces in the desert allow for much more long distance birding than here in Michigan). My 8x42 Trinovids were my main binoculars for many years, but on some days they are actually too bright - watching hawk migrations on clear days would give me a headache. As you can see from the light transmission measurements the FL has 5-7% higher light transmission than either of the others. I find that much difference in brightness, while not exactly overwelming, is easily seen in a direct comparison. The difference in image brightness in any light was quite obviuos to me between the 8x56FL and the 8x50 Ultravid. I read this forum for some time. Many thanks to all of you for enlightening myself in many matters that I wasn't even aware of. Anyway I finally decided to get myself one of those fine binoculars I have heard so much about. I need them for very low light conditions and figured out that 8x50 or 8x56 would serve the purpose fine. The Ultima DX series combines excellent optics, high-quality construction, and affordability. It is ideal for serious bird watchers who need a lightweight, easy-to-use binocular, as well as outdoor enthusiasts who value rugged durability and resistance. Is it smooth or rough to turn? I've read some comments that Leica improved the focus on the HDs and that they are easier to turn than the BRs, but then a HD user with a stiff focuser posted a comment that seemed to contradict that, so I'm not sure what to believe about the HD's focuser. Smoother than the BR's or not? I have seen the non-HD Ultravid 8x50 criticized for excessive eye relief and color fringing, by one of our more esteemed and near-impossible to please members. I flip and flop in my sensitivity to color fringing, but hate eye relief problems, and would take that comment seriously. Perhaps Leica should take an example from Zeiss and make a line of hunting binoculars with greaseless focusers for hunters (and owlers), and another line with grease for birders.

The innovative AquaDura® coating grants crystal clear vision in any weather and protects the lenses from scratches or abrasion. Raindrops simply roll off. Dirt and fingerprints are easily wiped away. Whether you are a casual observer or a dedicated hobbyist, everyone benefits from having a pair of top-quality binoculars. These compact devices bring distant objects into focus clearly and allow even novice naturalists to see details they might not have noticed. Although way outside the birding mainstream, the 8x56 Zeiss FL has been extensively discussed here. It is apparently so good that it is regarded as almost an optical curiosity, and stands on a unique view-quality pedestal. 44 ounces of pure joy, they say. You might want to consider it too, especially if you plan to put it to its intended usage, low light. There is also a certain sense of history there. The Leica Trinovid largely first defined what continues today as the modern roof prism binocular, with internal focusing, full waterproofing, adjustable mechanical eyecups, and left/right eye adjustment integral with the focusing mechanism. It was also one of the first with prism phase correction coating, but sadly, Zeiss set that precedent a couple of years previous, you can't win em all I guess! I hope you enjoy yours.

Are there any good places that might have a spare Zeiss leather case I could buy for these? If not, I'll just buy caps from Agena Astro and put them in a nice case for protection. The Ultravid HD-Plus 50 binoculars are specifically designed to give you a clear view of your target even in dim light - from dusk and into the night. They deliver excellent contrast and an image brightness that, when combined with their large lenses, make the Ultravid HD-Plus 50 the per fect binoculars for hunting in the darkest conditions. I’ll be quite interested to see if the new 8x50 Ultravid HD has less lateral color. I wouldn’t expect much improvement from a change in objective glass. Right now I consider the prime suspect to be the simple 4 element eyepiece used in the 8x50. Shouldn't be a problem for owling or hunting, but you probably wouldn't want them to tighten the focuser on your 8x32 model, which you probably focus with a lot more. The Leica Ultravid 50 HD-Plus models provide excellent contrast and outstanding image brightness that other binoculars with larger front-lens diameters can hardly rival. Fluoride lenses ensure optimum clarity and resolving power. Thanks to their large objective lens diameter, they are particularly suitable for use in twilight and the early evening hours.

After nearly 100 hours of research, we were able to come up with many top products from prominent brands. Among them, Opticron Discovery WP PC Mg 8x50 Binocularseems to be the first product you can rely on. Alternatively, if you're simply looking for a good-looking option, you may go with Celestron – SkyMaster DX 8x56mm Binoculars – Premium Outdoor. I have only used a BA, my 8x42, but have also wondered about this, and will share my second-hand "knowledge".
