About this deal

Despite not being incredibly slim, the nearly bezel-less design of the TV is fairly versatile. The legs of the TV can either be placed close together to fit on a smaller table or stand, or can be attached to the outside corners of the TV to give it some more stability. It has Vivid/Low Power/Smart HDR/Sports/Movie/Game modes. You need to use Vivid for most typical Australian lounge rooms, and our tests are based on that. Primary colours are good Secondary colours (tones) are limited to about 60% of the gamut Like previous years, the TCL 6-Series R635 uses Roku TV, an egalitarian smart TV platform that has a fair and robust search feature and most of the major streaming apps. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)

Speaking of the legs, one neat addition this year is the ability to weave cables through the legs themselves, creating a less chaotic space free from wires.

The panel is rated at 330 nits (100% of the panel), and our tests verified this. It is not overly bright and best in slightly darker rooms. If you have more open viewing space, then the C835 Mini-LED is for you. As far as those limitations go, the biggest is obviously the peak brightness, with the RC630K limited to 400cd/m2 on both a 10% window and a full-field pattern, regardless of which mode you select. As a result, you’re better off choosing the more accurate Dark HDR mode, and simply selecting the highest brightness setting. At 20% panel, it can reach about 400 nits; at 10% panel, it can reach 500 nits, and at 2% panel, it can micro-second flash around 800 nits. HDR/10/+/HLG/Dolby Vision – Technical Fail but Passable Subtitle and audio description information spoken on the electronic programme guide more info panelThe visible threshold for any DeltaE is 3, so the RC630K is certainly in the ballpark, but given there are no real calibration controls it’s impossible to get it any more accurate. Thankfully, the resulting picture is very watchable, with natural-looking colours, and some decent shadow detail. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output The use of quantum dot filters means the RC630K covers the majority of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, reaching an impressive 95%. The colours also closely hit their targets at various saturation points, ensuring that the overall pictures look natural while also retaining a pleasing degree of pop. In terms of raw measurements, this is an impressive HDR performance for a TV at this price.
