At least at the budget end of the TV world.
The 50UK4D63DB also follows its 50UK3163DB predecessor in achieving a genuine 4K feeling with the sharpness and detail density of its pictures. It maintains that clarity better than most when there’s motion in the frame, too, and while it’s naturally at its best with native 4K, it upscales HD very credibly and naturally for such an affordable TV too. Inevitably for a 50-inch TV costing this little, the 50UK4D63DB features a 60Hz panel. This, together with the limited bandwidth of its trio of HDMI ports, denies it any support for today’s 120Hz gaming graphics, at either 4K or HD resolutions. Calibration is important for ensuring that the picture and sound settings are optimized for the viewing environment. The Toshiba UF3D has a range of calibration options, including color calibration and gamma calibration. Users can also adjust the white balance and color temperature to ensure the colors are accurate and consistent. Additionally, the television has a built-in calibration tool that can be accessed through the settings menu. Software UpdatesOf course, there are some downsides to OLED technology - they're somewhat susceptible to screen burn, with images lingering on the screen if they're left on standby for too long. Is a QLED TV worth it? The Toshiba UF3D delivers an excellent gaming experience thanks to its advanced technology and low input lag. Potentially undermining these hopes, though, is the 55QA5D63DB’s use of an IPS type of LCD panel rather than a VA one. This means, based on past experience, that it may remain enjoyable to watch from a wider viewing angle than VA rivals, but will likely struggle to deliver serious contrast. The Toshiba UF3D comes with a standard remote control, but several accessories can enhance your viewing experience. These accessories include:The speakers even have the dynamic range and power to keep on growing in step with an escalating action scene – something many TVs costing way more fail to do – and the sound consistently has direct impact, rather than sounding as if it’s all getting swallowed up somewhere behind the screen. In fact, while we’re obviously not talking about levels of brightness even close to those the best OLEDs or, especially, premium LCD TVs can produce, the 55QA5D63DB is bright enough to deliver comfortably the biggest escalation from SDR to HDR of any TV in its price class. The One Connect Box is a feature available on some Samsung televisions. This box connects to the tv and houses all of the connections, including HDMI and USB ports. The 55QA5D63DB’s speakers, which have been designed in conjunction with Onkyo, are seriously powerful, making it one of the flat-out loudest budget TVs we’ve ever heard.The 50UK4D63DB punches above its price with its colour, too, achieving saturation levels we’ve seen TVs costing many times as much fail to achieve. That gives you at least a flavour of the wide colour gamuts that accompany the vast majority of HDR sources. There are, to be fair, one or two more picture areas where the 55QA5D63DB does pretty well. Its native 4K pictures are crisp and sharp (a touch too much in its Vivid and Standard picture presets, perhaps), and the sharpness doesn’t break down badly when there’s motion in the frame. Nor is there any of the overt smearing or excessive judder we still often see on budget TVs, even with 24p movie sources. Elsewhere, Toshiba’s new UF3D line marks the company’s first smart TV with Fire TV built-in to launch in the UK. The Toshiba UF3D is available in a range of sizes, from 43 to 65 inches, making it suitable for viewing environments. The 50-inch model is popular, providing a large viewing area without being too bulky or expensive. Users can choose the size that best fits their viewing environment and budget. 4K Resolution
