About this deal

While Nietzsche’s quote has a deep philosophical meaning, it can also be applied to our daily lives. Here are some practical applications of Nietzsche’s quote:

Friedrich Nietzsche Quotes (Author of Thus Spoke Zarathustra) Friedrich Nietzsche Quotes (Author of Thus Spoke Zarathustra)

Robert Ressler is probably now best known in the Mindhunter context, or as a name said alongside that of John Douglas. There's obviously some common ground between the two when they write, but I found Ressler much more academic and far less prone to the moments of over-inflating ego that punctuate Douglas' books. That can make things slightly dryer in places, as there's no attempt to sensationalise or dramatise any events, but I'll take slightly dry over an overactive ego any day. Nietzsche's frequent themes eschewing religion and god, prescribed morality and dogma in favour of self realisation, agency of conscious, independent thought and personal creative capacity identify the potential of man to be led and corrupted by their fears - the shadow when personal accountability is overshadowed by a sense of judgement and righteousness. I cannot alter the facts associated to particular activity, but I can find freedom in choosing what kind activity I engage in. The types of activities which are available for me at the moment, are determined by the society in which I have been born into. And engaging, I also gain the particular types of freedoms associated to that particular activity. The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” At that time, psychology was not as well received as it is today, particularly not in a criminal sense. Evidence and forensics were the center of attention not theories and possibilities regarding the minds of murderers. Difficult as it may be to believe, almost all police and justice forces never examined perpetrators psychologically or thought it at all important to solving whodunnit until recently. A crime is committed, nearby people are interviewed, suspects are rounded up and questioned based on their likelihood of having a reason to kill - money, jealousy, sex, rage, especially past convictions involving violence - done. Police had no interest in profiling. Indeed, most police were suspicious of profiling, even today. Crime scene facts and physical evidence are what matters, along with witness statements, if any. He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster . . . when you gaze long into the abyss the abyss also gazes into you” Nietzsche sparked controversy but also admiration for his famous statement that “God is dead.” He also introduced us to concepts related to an individual’s achievements, ambition, and the striving to exist beyond conventional categories as good and evil.

Nietzsche and the abyss – The unity of nothingness. Nietzsche and the abyss – The unity of nothingness.

First, it could have been far better organized. The last 1/2 of the book read/ felt as all over the place for various profiling past cases and proclivities rationalizations. All types of tangent projections that are difficult to connote as "group" too. NOT in the classes of "organized" and "disorganized" murderers. That parsing to description was excellent. And Ressler was one of the first who described each.Nietzsche was a brilliant philosopher whose intellectual life was crippled by serious amounts of pain and discomfort and a slow descent into madness, the primary cause was a progressive and untreatable brain condition that resulted in his almost complete immobility in later years due to stroke. Take Control of Your Thoughts: It’s important to take control of your own thoughts and actions, and not be swayed by external forces. This means being aware of the media and information that you consume, and taking the time to reflect on your own beliefs and values. One ought to hold on to one’s heart; for if one lets it go, one soon loses control of the head too. The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”
