About this deal

Gladys is an elderly neighbor who becomes suspicious of the West and takes it upon herself to investigate their secrets. Terrifying, Nail biting, and Fast-paced, this story opens when THREE gunshots are heard from the home of John and Katherine West, where they live with their 5 year old twins, George and Sophie-a family of FOUR. I’m glad both books interest you, Mischenko. They definitely held my interest from start to finish. And here’s to more reads in August for both of us! 🙂 Woohoo! I am so glad to hear that, LauraLynn. I think she is an awesome author. I have more of her books on my Kindle. If I hadn’t read her other work earlier, I’m sure I would have rated Missing Molly higher. I’m definitely a fan and will continue to read anything she releases. I am so thankful a review I did pointed you in her direction1

I agree about needed something fresh now and then. That’s why reading indies is so fun – lots of variety! I did! 😊 reading The Art of War:A Novel, at the mo, really good book, same sort of story as Captain Carroli’s Mandolin if you ever read that.thoughts on “ Book Review Tuesday: The Family Across the Street by Nicole Trope @nicoletrope, Missing Molly by Natalie Barelli#suspense” The story revolves around the Wilson family, who move into their dream home on Maple Street. They are immediately welcomed by their new neighbors, the seemingly perfect and friendly Crawford family. However, as the plot unfolds, it becomes clear that there is something sinister lurking beneath the surface of this picturesque neighborhood. The rest of the book is told primarily in the sever hours leading up to the gunshots. In this book we slowly see the building of tension from each of the different perspectives and we see how the book culminates in the gunshot. The story is told from three perspectives; Katherine, mother of five-year-old twins Sophie and George, Gladys an elderly, busybody neighbour who is the carer of her husband who has Parkinsons, and convicted felon/deliveryman, Logan. It is also told from the perspective of an unknown character who is holding Katherine and her children at gunpoint. Yeah, the first one is good, but just not what I was expecting, and I think you would be expecting the same. The Housekeeper is a great book. That one I think you’ll really enjoy!

From its title alone Channel 5’s The House Across The Street promises some serious suspense and as anyone who’s binge-watched their way through The Watcher will know, there’s nothing like a little suspicion to throw a neighborhood into chaos. This is certainly the case in The House Across The Street which stars Harry Potter actor Shirley Henderson as lonely single mother Claudia alongside Line of Duty’s Craig Parkinson as teacher George. When a local girl goes missing, Claudia gains a new sense of purpose and as her fixation with the case grows steadily more intense everyone becomes a suspect.

About Me

Feeling like you're not getting your money's worth from your scented candles? These common candle mistakes may be the reason why As Gladys delves deeper into the Wests’ lives, she uncovers a horrifying secret. John, the husband, is revealed to be an abusive and controlling partner, while Katherine, his wife, lives in constant fear. Despite her terror, Katherine is trapped in a toxic relationship, terrified of the repercussions if she tries to leave and the safety of her children. For those who love to lose themselves in fantastical worlds, there are plenty of science fiction and fantasy novels to choose from. Imagine traversing alternate dimensions, battling mythical creatures, or saving the future with a band of rebels. Gladys and Lou lived across the street from Katherine and John West and their five-year-old twins George and Sophie. Early one hot summer morning, Gladys noticed the house was still closed up, when Katherine always had the blinds open, with the children getting ready for school, and she started to get a bad feeling. Lou was suffering with Parkinson’s Disease and Gladys cared for him, apart from days Peter, the carer, arrived and Gladys was free to do her usual chores. But Peter hadn’t been able to come that day, leaving Lou in Gladys’ hands. The story is interspersed with feelings from the man holding Katherine and her two children at gun point. He is going to kill her and will not spare the children, if need be, but it is clear he is harbouring a lot of pain and hurt and believes it may be necessary “…. to blow up everything around you just to prove you’ve been hurt”, because one day you "... realise that the love of your life no longer thinks you’re the love of her life" but really this man is a resentful rage machine and he is prepared to punish her.

I think my expectations were definitely high for both of these books. The first because of the blurb, and the second because of the other books I’ve read by this author. To be fair, I think Missing Molly was one of her earliest works. As you said, they can’t all be home runs! Sophie is one of the twin children of Katherine and John. She is an innocent victim of the abusive environment at home. George West All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make.

The Family Across the Street Details:

Additionally, the unforgettable characters and their haunting journey reminded me that secrets may reside behind every closed door, and the power of empathy and vigilance can make all the difference in uncovering the truth and protecting those in need. Some secrets should never see the light of day, and as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them. Rachel has a life now, a boyfriend she loves and a three-year-old daughter she adores, and she will do anything to protect them. Katherine thought today was going to be a normal day. Reeling from a fight with her husband, she gets her twins dressed for school. The doorbell rings. A man she knows all too well has a gun and is determined to have his voice heard. As the day plays out, we meet the nosey neighbor and delivery man. Both know something is wrong at Katherine's house.

Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, The Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn. E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe. I don't remember the last time a domestic thriller made me feel hopeful about the universe - but this one changed that. I loved everything about this book! Thank you, Jayme, for putting this one on my radar, as I'm not sure I would have read it otherwise! The idea for her first published novel, The Boy under the Table, was so scary that it took a year for her to find the courage to write the emotional story. This book isn’t at all what I anticipated from the blurb. I was expecting a gradual unraveling of secrets related to a family on a suburban street. Instead, I got a heinous situation pretty much right off the bat, and one that escalated as the book progressed. The entire storyline plays out during the course of a single day, the scenes conjuring a heightened sense of claustrophobia along with escalating danger. These both sound excellent, Mae. You left me intrigued on Missing Molly. Glad you had a wonderful vacation! I’m looking forward to a wonderful August as well. ❤️
