Das Thema der Geschichte ist ja doch sehr aktuell, sowohl die ausgebrochenen Seuche als auch die neue Computer Technik, die Anfangs mehr wie eine Spinnerei scheint, zum Ende hin aber immer nützlicher wird. Georgie and Ramzy are lovely characters, their friendship is strong and means everything to them, as friends do at this age. They both have distinctive, realistic voices and give this story its heart. But, exceptions aside, I think it’s a pretty good rule. Dogs just want to be with us. Did you know that dogs have lived alongside humans for pretty much as long as we’ve been on earth? That’s why we have the expression “man’s best friend.” (And woman’s, and children’s as well, obviously.) Set in the near future Ross Welford’s ‘The Dog Who Saved the World’ takes us on a fast-paced journey into the world of virtual reality and time travel.

A mix of adventure and science fiction, The Dog Who Saved The World follows eleven-year-old Georgie as she sets off on a quest to save her beloved dog, Mr Mash from a terrible fate. For a deadly disease is sweeping across the world, a danger to dogs and humans alike, and now humanity’s only hopes lies in finding a cure that does not yet exist… unless like Georgie, you happen to know a mad-scientist who has a prototype, glitch-ridden time machine… what could possibly go wrong? I liked all the characters involved, and loved the little details here and there that made even the less positive ones seem well-rounded and interesting. I also loved the pro-women STEM aspects, which is always great to see in children’s fiction.If there’s one question that makes writers’ hearts sink, it is “Where do you get your ideas from?” That’s because the only honest answer is “I don’t know”. We come up with so many convoluted answers to that question, but they’re all just stories to avoid having to tell the truth, which would disappoint. Stephen King says that’s why writers like other writers’ company: because they never ask that question! The only thing I could add is that perhaps writers think more, and use their imagination more, because we have to: it’s our job. But an idea never arrives fully formed – at least it never has for me, sadly. When 11 year-old Georgie befriends an eccentric retired scientist, she becomes the test subject for a thrilling new experiment: a virtual-reality 3-D version of the future.

Ramzy,” I say patiently. “We’re just visiting an old lady. She’s probably lonely and wants to give us tea and scones or something. Scroll through photos of her grandchildren. And we’ll be polite and then we’ll be off the hook. That’s not an adventure, unless you’re very odd.”However all the secondary characters each have their own zing about them. From crazy aunts, to moody older brothers, sweet vicars and sharp tongued police. I adore that every character (be they two legged or four) gets their own distinct voice. Oh this sounds excellent! I really enjoyed The Time Travelling Hamster so I think I would enjoy this one too. I for one would have put up with that. Although sometimes the smell could make your eyes water, it was never for long. No: it was Jessica, one hundred percent.

I had applied to more than 20 alternative schools all over India two years ago for my son's admission, but nothing worked out. I knew the existing school was not good enough for him. I felt frustrated and could not understand what plans God had for me. However I am very grateful to you for making me aware of so many aspects, now my son has got admission to a school specially meant to teach children like him, in New Jersey and my son is very happy. Dad got him from St. Woof’s, and we didn’t know his age. The vicar (who knows about this sort of thing) estimated him to be about five years old. Nor did he fit anywhere on my list of favorite dog breeds. It’s Georgie and her best friend Ramzy who save the world, and Mashie definitely does his part. Georgie has desperately wanted a dog forever, but when she finally is allowed to adopt Mashie from the local shelter, her father’s girlfriend is allergic to him, so they can’t keep him. Georgie volunteers for the shelter so that she can keep seeing Mashie.In my opinion, the title of the book The Dog Who Saved The World that refers to Mr. Mash, does not reflect the storyline as the adventures are related not to the dog but his owner. It is Georgina who travels to the probable future with the help of Dr. Pretorius, a millionaire scientist who is missing from her island mansion and hides her real name -- Dr. Erika Pettersen. Dr Pretorius’ faculty of multi-sensory virtual reality (MSVR) gave her a view of the probable future. Mr.Mash’s role is limited to the point that his blood is the only option to prevent mass deaths of dogs and humans alike. Anfangs war ich noch recht skeptisch bei diesem Buch, vor allem weil mir einige Situationen und Figuren eher suspekt waren. Allerdings sind mir diese im Laufe der Geschichte allesamt ans Herz gewachsen. Lewis loves football, but his mum won't let him play. So what will happen when an Ace Academy coach spots him practising and recognises his talent? When it came to the plot though, Ross Welford is a master story teller. Between the layers of heart pounding, tear spiking and edge-of-your-seat fiction, the author weaves many sensitive issues into his work. However he presents everything in a relatable, child friendly way without pushing any opinions onto the reader. It’s inspiring how he can open your mind to world, making you consider all the people and animals that share this planet with us and the problems others face. Even without the awesome writing I would applaud him for this alone!
