Hi Paul, this is a great article and i too have the “SAS survival guide”! I am trying to put together Lofty’s survival pouch but can’t find a suitable container for it all… easyazon_image align=”none” height=”107″ identifier=”B00IUQ24GE” locale=”UK” src=”https://ukpreppersguide.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/51VWd3Ufz2L.SL160.jpg” tag=”blogsurvivaltin-21″ width=”160″] This Urban Survival Tin is designed to increase chances of survival and rescue or escape specifically in an urban environment should things go bad. It is designed for both domestic and travel use, although you cannot hand carry this tin on a plane.
What makes this tin different is that it focuses on urban survival. This is not an outdoor or wilderness survival kit. The urban environment is quite different with different opportunities and different challenges. He then said that other things will help, once you get past 3-4 days, if you know what youre doing. These being: Another consideration is what the weather is likely to be at the far end of your trip? If I’m flying to a cold destination, for example, I always make sure I have a warm coat, gloves and hat in my hand luggage, even if I don’t need them where I’m departing from. Then if my hold luggage is mislaid, I’m OK. Now, this is not an exhaustive survival kit that will guarantee your survival in any situation but it may increase your chances substantially, which makes it worthwhile.

This is meant to be an EDC (that is everyday carry) so it was designed to be small, compact and as lightweight as possible. Another excellent product from Polymath! A well thought out simple kit that contains quality useful products not a load of cheap Chinese rubbish. I’ve added two Stanley blades which fit inside the tin perfectly. I have added this to my normal EDC bag. Personalised Wooden Keyring - Never forget the difference you make - Thank you - Engrave - Wood burner - Pyrography- Key chains - Self care
Yes, you guys had fun using your kits last year. Matt Batham also just commented on this experience in the comments section of the ‘Essential Wilderness Equipment’ article. That said, after something Mors Kochanski said at the booshmoot this year I have had a bit of a re-think about survival kits. As Mors pointed out, if you can’t get a drink or sufficient sleep you will break down in two days, make mistakes and die. Matches, the easiest way to light a fire; to quote, learn the fire bow by all means, but always, always carry matches. I agree that Chlorine Dioxide is a very good alternative. It is effective against all waterborne pathogenic organisms. From a survival standpoint insect repellant may seem like a luxury at first glance. Biting insects can make life a misery though. They can cause so much distraction that you don’t pay attention to dangers or that you injure yourself, particularly if you’re using cutting tools. Medical Kit

I also carry a emergency fishing kit but some of the kit is slightly different. The line I use is waxed braid instead of nylon due to smaller diameter increased strength and better wear resistance. This will require some planning on your part as well as some decision-making to decide which kit will hold what items. Ultimately, just have a bit of fun and experiment so that you can create the perfect Altoids survival kit for you and your family.
