PAL/Europe releases are the next best thing according to English sub acquisition. They are considerably cheaper than US releases. Keep in mind that you need a modified or PAL console if you plan to play those games on real hardware. Keep in mind that the PAL versions of Silent Hill feature some sort of censorship in which Grey Children are replaced by the Mumbler. However, PAL versions feature the last news article which is cut in the US release. The PS3 has more or less good PS1 emulation and reads PS1 discs as well. No problems however to my knowledge.
