Digital radios, also known as DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus), work by transmitting digital radio signals instead of analog signals, as is the case with traditional FM radios. In other words, radio stations transmit their programmes digitally.

Applicable models: Chronos 2, Contour 100Di, Elan 2, Evoke 1S, Evoke 2S, Highway, One Classic, One Classic Series 2, One Elite, One Elite Series 2, One Mi, One Mi Series 2, Siesta, Siesta Mi, Siesta Mi Series 2 The former is essentially identical to the product on review here, but doesn't include internet radio, while the latter is a stereo version of the Pure Elan Connect. So, if internet radio isn’t essential, then you can spend less; if you want the same features and stereo sound, you can spend more.The manual for the Pure One doesn’t list a way to display the serial number. We’ve tried on our One Mi Series 2 and can only see the software version and the device identifier. If you still have the box for the radio the serial number may be displayed on the outside.

Reception of DAB and FM radio stations is comparable to other portable radios we have tested. The radio struggled to receive Times Radio in our location, but this is the same with radios we’ve tested from Roberts and Sony. Sometimes FM stations can sound distorted as it attempts to receive the station in stereo. An option in the menu allows for ‘forced mono’ which may help with weaker stations. This means programme information, such as the name and artist of the current song, can be seen at a glance rather than waiting for it to scroll across. The larger display also makes it easier to browse radio stations as seven can be shown at a time as a list.
