About this deal

Overall, I think that this is a wonderfully cute book for young girls. It is fairly long, but does have some pictures. It is the perfect book to read with a child. Ella's family has a big secret - her mummy is a fairy! She can do amazing spells with her computawand. Only, sometimes the spells go a bit wrong, and that's when Ella steps in to the rescue. Then she pointed her Computawand at herself, pressed a code – bleep-bleep- bloop – and said, ‘Cooleridoo!’ Hello. I'm called Ella Brook and I live in a town called Cherrywood. I have blue eyes and dark brown hair. My best friends at school are Tom and Lenka. My worst enemy is Zoe. And then there is my mummy. She looks normal, like any other mummy . . . but she's not. Because she can turn into a fairy. She just has to shut her eyes tight, say 'Marshmallow' . . . and POOF! She's Mummy Fairy.

Mummy Fairy and Me by Sophie Kinsella | Goodreads

Ella's family have a big secret . . . her mummy is a fairy! She can do amazing spells with her computawand to make delicious cupcakes, create the perfect birthday party and cause chaos at the supermarket. But sometimes the spells go a bit wrong and that's when Ella comes to the rescue! We both had such fun reading this book about a very modern fairy and her fairy-in-training daughter. We interacted with the storyline, joined in with the spells and laughed at the situations Mummy got them all into. We were both quite sad to get to the end but we have been cheered up considerably by the news that Mummy Fairy will return later on in the year. Oh dear, you have Fairy Flu,’ she said as soon as she saw Mummy Fairy. ‘I’m afraid there is no spell for Fairy Flu. If you try to cure it with magic, you’ll make it worse. You must drink lemon squash and rest. And you must definitely not try any more magic.’ Ella spends time with fairies and mermaids, helping save whales and solving robberies, all with the help of her fairy mother - although Mummy Fairy's spells do not always go to plan! Ella is a fairy-in-waiting, as she is not old enough to go to fairy school, but her Aunty Jo and her Granny are also fairies and help and support her, mostly! When fairy Aunty comes to school with Ella and tries to help her with her science project and defeat the unkind Zoe, fairy magic doesn't always go to plan...I felt it ended a bit abruptly, but knowing there is another book coming helps. The chapters were a bit long and didn't really connect to each other, so it seemed more like a series of short stories. In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me).

Sophie was born in London. She studied music at New College, Oxford, but after a year switched to Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She now lives in London, UK, with her husband and family. We all waited. But Mummy Fairy’s spots didn’t go away and her nose was still runny. Her wings drooped even further. Magic and mayhem in this sweet and funny new series for 5-7 year olds from global bestselling author Sophie Kinsella. But Mummy took no notice. ‘Here we are,’ she said. ‘I knew I’d find something! A spell to make you feel cooler. That’s exactly what I need.’ She got out of bed, stamped her feet three times, clapped her hands, wiggled her bottom and said, ‘Marshmallow’ . . . and POOF! she was a fairy.

A friend of mine suggested reading a book of the author, Sophie Kinsella, for one of the reading challenges. I had lots of reading challenges at hand, so I decided to read the shortest book - it was a children’s book. At once, the bed gave a little bounce. I looked at Mummy Fairy, and Mummy Fairy looked at me. The bed bounced again. Fairy Mom and Me is the first book in a new children's series by one of my favorite authors, Sophie Kinsella. Sophie’s latest novel, Surprise Me, published in February 2018, presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

I can enthusiastically say that I’m looking forward to reading more of her books, especially the ones targeted to an adult audience.

After lunch I went to see how Mummy was feeling. She was sitting up in bed all alone in her nightie, drinking lemon squash and reading her Spell Book.
