I haven’t read a lot of single parent books but this one has to be my favorite! Also her best friend Layla and her son Jaime just made the book even more amazing. Not in his dark hair, not in his physique, and definitely not in the dimples she’s only seen a hint of. She’s one hundred percent, absolutely, not interested. What I hated... The love interest, Maddison it's a woman that has had two men in her life when we meet her: the first one got her pregnant and ran away, the second one was abusive. I loved! It felt so original to focus on the strength and determination of the single mother heroine and the problems of making assumptions. There is a great deal of romance between neighbors and lovers, and seeing the subtle shifts in dynamic was immensely satisfying. Our hero is a grumpy jerk who isn’t that likable at first, but by the end he completely melted my heart.

Honestly, every time I try to talk about this book, I swear I just sound like I'm screeching with joy. I needed to buy myself a physical copy of Meet Me Halfway like yesterday. Sis is a huge hypocrite and he's right! She excuses herself saying that she's joking, but girl, jokes have to be funny, and objectifying men, or well, people in general, isn't funny or a thing to joke about. AND SHE CONTINUED JOKING ABOUT IT! I could have done with the ex-drama. The coworker drama. The soccer moms drama. `The morning after drama. THE DRAMA. Ugh. I had more reasons, but I forgot. He is a no no, so when they went to have sex, I couldn't go there, it made me cringe and even though I applaud Maddison for doing what is right for her (she still got the job even though he didn't want her to), and no paying attention to him. I still think she deserved better. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️❤️idk how a man makes the threat of vomiting into a sexual innuendo but that takes skill. my man said ✨versatility✨ No, you won’t. From the sounds of it, you got nothing left in the tank. You’d just gag, and I gotta tell you, baby, gagging doesn’t bother me.” so by default, i was gonna love this. it really gave me everything this trope does so well— the cute kid, the sexy neighbour who’s a grump but a big softie, the sweet heroine, the slow pining and tension, the fun best friend... yeah, this one just hit.

I’d like to believe that this book is a fair and unfortunately heartbreaking representation of what it’s like to be a single mom. The entire story is told from Madison’s POV (except for a surprise chapter from Garrett’s pov at the end of the book that answers a burning question many of us likely had while reading the story). I loved this approach, and that coupled with the slow burn, really gave me Mariana Zapata vibes, even though it’s a lot shorter than her tomes tend to be. If you love authors like Melanie Harlow, Devney Perry Mariana Zapata, and/or Lucy Score, Meet Me Halfway should definitely be your next read.
