Lazy and engrossing way to read History.Salt and pepper sprinklingl of anecdote and humour keeps the reader chipping along. That said, I do not want to turn people away from reading this wook. Actually, Rutherfurd paid a lot of detailed attention to the Middle Ages - a topic I've long been curious about, but only now delved into. I was never bored for a minute while reading his short stories, chronicling the lives of several London families. His clever use of identifying features for each family through time kept me oriented, but the characters themselves are each unique, flawed, and delightful.
