About this deal

For several years, incoming arrive through one provider, and outgoing are carried on a variety of different ones, depending on who is cheaper for that call. I also tried using Android app "huaCtrl" (available in the Google PlayStore) to change bands on both the B525 and B535, but I still couldn't get the B525 to go to LTE+

In my B525 firmware there is a voip setting which I use with a Sipgate basic account, using a phone plugged into the B525 I do not get the drop to 3g but also cannot use the Three free minutes but the SMS still works. I think the b715 is the best router but it depends on the 2CA and 3CA combinations active on my local tower. However, I'm not sure it's worth the extra and the hassle of importing one. After reviewing the manual for the 23a this combination is not down as being supported. Only B1+B20 or B3+B20. If this of correct its not good news for Three owners as this is the ideal combo. This seems to suggest as the manual states that B1+B3 is NOT possible on the 23a model of the B525. Dissapointing. Maybe this is why Three are now using the B535 - however cannot find spec sheet to see if B1 + B3 is possible.

In reply to a post by jchamier:Yes as described the mast is in charge. It measures your signal quality and puts you on the one most likely to give you a usable signal. It does not care about internet speed. Leaving the device alone after switching on / restarting can lead to CA never being activated, or taking many hours. I am not saying it's the device that is deciding to give CA / 4g+, however it's the device choosing to stay on a band 20 cell where CA will never work until the device switches to the band 3 cell. Trying to work out the best router for this combo and any potential future ones if ee upgrade to include 2600mhz too - i dont think this is likely in the short term tho. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a total hard reset of the B525. If I get no response from Livewire, that's what I'll try next. If that doesn't work, I'll try the firmware update posted at the start of this thread. We’ve mentioned three of the main alternatives elsewhere in this review – the Three 5G Hub, the Three 4G Hub, and the 4GEE Home Router 2. The first of those is only worth considering if you can get a 5G signal, while the other two tie you to Three and EE respectively.

I thought three did CA across all bands so therefore by default it would be fastest if it could do CA ? In reply to a post by jchamier:If you have a good signal for Three on band 3 this is better for you as there is more capacity (15mhz) than on Band 20 (5mhz). LTEBand is the value for the primary LTE bands available to the router this is not anything to do with aggregation, when not in use its set to 7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF kommando hmm when I compare the hardware they looks almost identical... so maybe I try to use b525 soft... To add. You don't have to do steps 2 to 5 every time, if this happens to work for you, that is. If the router is restarted, simply repeat steps 1 and 6.Intra-band: B1+B3, B1+B7, B1+B8, B1+B20, B1+B28, B3+B7, B3+B8, B3+B20, B3+B28, B7+B8, B7+B20, B7+B28, B8+B32, B8+B38, B20+B32, B20+B38, B28+B38

Thanks filmguyuk for the above post as it prompted me to also get a B618 to compare with a B525 which arrived earlier this week. The 525 was itself a replacement for a Tp-Link router which arrived last week. A week ago I had not even realised that LTE may be a viable alternative to our ADSL BT connection which I had become to hate with a passion. Because of this I did not realise the signicance that the Tp-Link was Cat4 but soon discovered that Cat6 may be better. I suspect i'll always connect to that cell as it less than 100metres away with direct line-of-sight. That’s not bad, but you’ll still need a SIM card and allowances to go with it, meaning there will be a monthly price too.Very rarely will an indoor antenna, even with good quality low loss cable, provide much improvement as any close object will adversely effect the fresnel zone of the LTE signal, even roof joints or roof tiles. Far better performance will come from mounting an external antenna and experimenting with location - even a small change (few inches) can have a major impact on performance - which will in turn provide the best possible throughput.
