The seventh floor of Hogwarts is home to the Room of Hidden Things and the Room of Mirrors. The Room of Hidden Things is a magical room that can only be accessed by those with pure hearts. It’s filled with strange artifacts and enchanted objects. The Room of Mirrors is filled with mirrors that reflect the hopes and dreams of those who enter, allowing them to glimpse their future. The Defense Against the Dark Arts office is apparently able to see the Quidditch Pitch and the Lake at once. Given the description of how to get there from the greenhouses, it is clear that this is simply an inconsistency. I made my decision based on the relative importance of the two scenes in which the view is mentioned; I wanted Harry to be able to watch Quidditch tryouts during detention with Dolores. These floor plans of every level of Hogwarts castle, researched and created by Harper Robinson, take the the tiniest of details from the books into account — read Harper’s notes below and be amazed — as well as the standard structure and architecture of castles over the centuries. While not canon, this map is certainly one of the most well-researched and historically accurate blueprints of Hogwarts that anyone could create. The second floor of Hogwarts contains the library, the trophy room, and the hospital wing. The library is one of the most famous rooms in the castle and is home to thousands of magical books. It’s filled with shelves stretching up to the ceiling and filled with enchanted objects such as talking portraits and floating candles. The trophy room is filled with awards and trophies won by Hogwarts students, including the House Cup and the Quidditch Cup. Finally, the hospital wing is where students go when they’re injured or ill and is run by Madam Pomfrey, the school nurse. Note: numbers are added to indicate possible classrooms but those rooms are not further identified. Events FILMMAKING SECRETS: Learn how Hogwarts and other locations in the wizarding world went from sketch to screen. If you assume that each house, gender, and year gets its own room, then you have to find places for a total of 56 different dormitories in which to put them. That would mean 14 rooms above the Gryffindor common room alone—and it’s already on the 7 th floor. In the interest of space, therefore, I’ve marked the places where I assume the dormitories to be, and have left it to magic to sort out. Perhaps there’s some kind of Expansion Charm involved. Finally, I listed the views that characters mention from various windows at different locations within the castle. If the Gryffindor Tower dormitory could see the Whomping Willow, then the floor plans had to reflect that. Historical accuracy was almost as difficult to achieve as canonical accuracy. There’s a very simple explanation for this: Hogwarts in its entirety is a 13-story Scottish castle from the 11th century. There were no 13-story castles in Scotland in the 11th century! They simply did not exist. (Let me make it clear at this point that I’d already realized that Hogwarts didn’t exist. I had known it ever since the age of eleven, when I hadn’t received my letter. What further proof could there possibly be?)
