The film is arguably the most divisive of the trilogy and the final moments surely play a part in that. However, there were two other ideas in mind for the last act, so let’s consider what a Halloween Ends alternative ending may have looked like. If there’s been one constant with this new trilogy it's each film has scored an excellent 4K transfer, and that trend continues with this 2160p Dolby Vision presentation of Halloween Ends. The film was shot digitally and finished with a 4K digital intermediate. Appropriately dreary and cold, the image is impeccably detailed with facial features, clothing, masks, and gore getting all of the care and attention they deserve. Michael’s cobwebbed burnt mask is a standout for all of the close-up action we see with the short amount of screen time he gets. Ultimately, the film on its own has merits – a solid cast, handsome production values, another great John and Cody Carpenter score and some interesting themes being explored. But in terms of delivering what was very clearly promised, on what has been talked up by Green, Curtis et al for years now, the trilogy and this film in particular cannot help but disappoint, even with the weight of those heady expectations removed. predecessor, either, if that matters, though the climax and the dénouement certainly don't shy away from some pretty intense blood and guts.
