About this deal

This is a fanfic... if you don't know who C.L Stone is or who Sang Sorensen or what a ghost bird is then this won't make any sense to you. The ivorybill faithful, on the other hand, have another explanation. They say the bird, in its 21st- century incarnation, has been transformed into a creature as shy as Bambi, as silent as a Trappist monk, as anxious to avoid photographers as a Mafia stool pigeon in a witness-protection program—altogether as invisible to the human senses as a stealth fighter is to radar. Prior to 2018, Nyctibius was considered the only extant genus within the Nyctibiidae; however, a study that year found a deep divergence between the rufous potoo and all other species in the genus, leading it to be described in the new genus Phyllaemulor and expanding the number of genera within the family. [12] This was followed by the International Ornithological Congress in 2022. [11] The great potoo measures around 18 – 23 inches (45.7-58.4 cm) tall. This makes it both the largest in the potoo species and the largest in their entire genus. 4. How much does a great potoo weigh?

Remember daughter, the world is a lot bigger than anyone knows. There are things that science may never explain. Maybe some things that shouldn’t be explained. There are villages in rural South America that will eat great potoo, but since the birds are hard to locate and small in stature, they aren’t considered a viable food source. Having slits in their eyelids might allow them to see in two directions at once. 17. Do great potoos mate for life? They stood outside the men’s department store. Nine of them all dressed professionally, but throwing off different aura's. I met their eyes one by one, showing a confidence I would never feel inside. I felt my eyes linger on the last two, both looked slightly older than the others, the first met my eyes with cool indifference and pure calculation, examining me in the same way I did him. The second looked at me in an entirely different way, he looked at me as if he could see the bruises on my skin and the limp I was trying so hard to hide." She was only going to run away for a night. That is what she told herself, but before she could leave, her mother gave her a punishment that made Sang leave for good. Now eighteen years old and on the streets still...Sang saves a young girl which might lead her to a group of people who can save her from the nightmare she lives each day Language: English Words: 2,052 Chapters: 2/? Sang is a popular girl who is about to graduate. A terrible accident changes her life forever. She meets 9 beautiful guys who help her through everything. It’s unknown if great potoos truly mate for life, but they do seem to form monogamous pairs for the breeding season. Great potoos are vulnerable to weasels, falcons, howlers, spider monkeys, and capuchin monkeys. They can be killed as adults or snatched as eggs. 11. How do great potoos defend themselves from predators?

A serious push has been under way in Congress for some time to revise the Endangered Species Act (eviscerate it, conservationists say), and some worry that the ivorybill episode could give ammunition to politicians and pundits who might claim that environmentalists overreact, abuse and manipulate science, and use scare tactics to achieve their goals. Nearly everyone accepted the news without question. The United States government gave its blessing through the cooperation of the Fish and Wildlife Service. The Nature Conservancy was a partner in the announcement. The journal Science published the search team’s paper. After all, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology arguably holds first place among the world’s most pres- tigious centers of bird study. When the Vatican issues an edict, to whom, exactly, do you appeal for a second opinion?

The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen (1894)

The great potoo is a medium-sized bird with a stout figure and a large head. It can come in several different colors, including white, gray, brown, burgundy, and reddish-orange. The eyes are large, even larger than those of nightjars. As in many species of nocturnal birds, they reflect the light of flashlights. [14] Their eyes, which could be conspicuous to potential predators during the day, have unusual slits in the lids, [15] which allow potoos to sense movement even when their eyes are closed. Their plumage is cryptic, helping them blend into the branches on which they spend their days. Their volume and projection haven’t been officially measured, but anecdotal reports suggest that they can be heard from far distances. 24. How do great potoos groom themselves?

Great potoos live in trees. Most of them prefer the coverage of forests and rainforests, but they’ll also strike out to grasslands, woodlands, foothills, forest edges, and even meadows. Indigenous storyteller turns the lens on small town life, prejudice and culture with a readable and scary story. Characters are based from the Ghost Bird series by CL Stone. Story will differ mostly on Sang's family life. There will be OCs I'll be adding to the story as it progress. Once I got properly into the story, this was FANTASTIC. It's got a really sinister undercurrent throughout, which really ramps up towards the end. The characters were great, and the way that First Nations beliefs and spirituality play into the story is great. As a result, it's an incredible mixture of crime, contemporary and paranormal, and I LOVED it.Whereupon the Skeptics point to the real elephant in the room: At least occasionally, ivorybill pairs must court, mate, excavate a cavity, lay eggs, incubate eggs, and feed the young in the nest, all of which requires the birds to remain in the same location for well over two months. Why, in 62 years, has not a single nest been found? This, perhaps more than anything else, is a problem for teetering Skeptics who might otherwise lean toward belief. Right: New evidence, including bark scaling, suggests ivorybills may persist along the Choctawhatchee River in Florida. But without a verifiable photograph of the bird, such evidence is inconclusive. BRIAN W. ROLEK, AUBURN UNIVERSITY It’s a subtle but significant variation that can be used to distinguish great potoos from other species while bird-watching. 25. What superstitions surround the great potoo? Nearly all great potoos have white bands on their tails. There are 8 – 9 bands in total. No one is quite sure why they exist, but they’re a distinctive feature of the species if you’re trying to spot one in the wild. In the opening story of this collection of short stories, Iris, a young girl, resides in a big country house with her mother and their servants. But when the Ladies arrive, Iris’ dead relatives begin to stir.
