About this deal

It’s lightweight, soft, responsive, grips well, and priced reasonably for its level of tech. Hey, there’s even an optional width and a size US 16 available. The super critical, nitrogen infused FuelCell provides really good energy return and makes it feel like a super foam. It’s not as bouncy as ZoomX but more bouncy than Hyper Burst, DNA Flash and Pwrrun PB. As someone who loves the bouncy foams of carbon plated super shoes, the Rebel V2 combines that trampoline like propulsion with a sublime upper and a simple yet flashy colorway. The foam is super soft, but rather than dissipating your energy, it rebounds it. The only downside of the soft foam is a little bit less stability and durability but for paved roads, this is an excellent shoe for all paces. Fit is true to size (M11).

The New Balance FuelCell Rebel 2 is a highly versatile performance trainer. The shoe runs neutral throughout and provides a highly cushioned and responsive ride for how low profile and lightweight the shoe is. The Rebel 2 is an impressive trainer that can be looked at as a "do it all" Trying to run fast on wet, paved roads with a bit of surface water? Tread carefully, particularly through turns. On the first run, the Rebel v2 reminded me a lot of the ride of the RC Elite: it’s how I imagine the RC Elite would feel without the carbon plate in it. Dare I say throw the old upper on this version? But maybe add the current tongue and another eyelet for us skinny ankled folk? Like Ben, I’m stretching on this, but hey, it’s a subjective review, I can say what I want.

New Balance FuelCell Rebel v2 Shoe Review - Running Warehouse

Just like the Rebel v2, going true to size will be a really snug fit so I suggest going up a half size. This is one of the rare shoes I’ve tested which I needed to size up. Going up a half size will provide a spacious forefoot and toe box for long training runs. THOMAS: At first, I was going to critique the tongue, but I grew to appreciate it. I have reviewed thousands of shoes. This one has me grasping for a negative or something I would improve. I got nothing. The v2 is more breathable and probably more durable than the original. A short, perforated tongue is a great touch and vast improvement over last year’s model. The heel collar has just enough padding to add comfort without being intrusive. Even the lacing system is upgraded, thanks in part to the amount of lace provided. The v1 had you double and triple tying to get rid of giant overhanging loops. This shoe is much simpler and flat out better. The upper clearly is airy and far less dense than the TC or RC. As a heel striker at slower paces I feared the soft soft foam would be overly soft, out of control, or bottom out so I initially didn’t request a sample but hearing early comments from the team had to try them! I was not disappointed! The fit of the FuelCell Rebel v2 is wide enough through the mid and forefoot to accommodate most runners. However, if you tend to prefer shoes specially designed for wide feet, you may find the Rebel v2 somewhat constrictive.

Dr. David Salas is a 135 lb male with notable PRs ranging from 3:54 in the 1500m to 1:08:36 for half marathon. He typically runs 60 to 70 miles per week and trains from about 7:30 recovery runs to fast shorter efforts at 4:30 pace. He normally prefers neutral shoes with a firmer ride, but is completely open to other types of shoes. He is a footwear enthusiast at heart and will always appreciate a high quality shoe when it comes around. For updates on training or testing, IG handle: @docsofrundavid I agree the foam feels rather ‘spongy’ at the start but after about 4-5km, you do feel the foam starting to ‘compress’. That may not be to some runners liking but I found it ok even for my second run which was 17km.
