While Finding Emma is a romance at its core, the book goes way beyond that. This is more the just a fluffy romance. As I read the book, I went through a lot of emotions - happy, sad, angry (and not necessarily for the reasons you might think). I laughed. I cried. I cheered and I cursed. This book kind of put me through the wringer. An extremely long scene will play when you get to this room. After meeting up with Snake and the others, Emma will start her install of the virus into GW, only to see that it can't be completed. Emma will slowly begin to fade and Otacon will comfort her and she finally dies, causing Otacon to become extremely distressed. The author has had an interesting journey to becoming an author and has had many different experiences in her life. She was a pastor and now is an author, reflecting that her personal journey has often been about self-discovery. Her view of who she was once she had the realization that she could write changed. It has been a long time since I've read a book that, when I finished it, I want to drop everything and post a review. I literally finished this book less than 30 minutes ago. It's also rare for a book to be on my mind this much. There is just so much I want to say about Finding Emma. Megan has been affected by the loss of her daughter, and rightly so. But her preoccupation is affecting the rest of her relationships and her family and friends feel the distance. Her older daughters are frustrated by Megan’s refusal to give up the search, and even her husband wants her to accept that Emma has disappeared so that the family does not fall apart. Those eyes... they were thieves. Stealing my breath, stealing my resolve to keep my distance, stealing the axis my world rested on and tipping it sideways. When you reach the bottom, Raiden will realize the Oil Fence is too small and light to support the weight of both of you, meaning Emma will have to make the journey alone.If there were ever a quiet male lead that really pulled me in, it may just be Finn. I loved watching him fight for Emma -- even when she pushes him away. These two have some personal demons they need to work through, and the journey they together was lovely to read. Her inability to move on after Emma's kidnapping has distanced Megan from her friends and family. Her two older daughters resent her relentless and fruitless search for their sister, and her husband, Peter, pleads with her to come to terms with Emma's absence before her obsession causes the destruction of the rest of their family.

Emma is not my favourite Austen novel, but the adaptation used for the 2020 film version is generally very good. One or two specifics are omitted, but this is inevitable in compression to the running time of just over two hours.
