What is decaf coffee and how is it made? Decaf is short for decaffeinated coffee. It’s coffee from coffee beans that have had at least 97% of their caffeine removed There are many ways to remove caffeine from coffee beans. Most of them include water, organic solvents, or carbon dioxide ( 1 ). Does Nescafe contain caffeine? To make things as controlled as possible, I tasted these blind, along with a friend. So it is largely a matter of individual sensitivity. Decaffeinated coffee is available for those who are particularly sensitive to caffeine.

This effect is natural and completely harmless, and doesn't alter the taste or aroma of the coffee. The only supermarket available brand I've discovered so far that does tell you the caffeine content is illy, who supplies the information that their caffeinated coffee contains no more than 1.5% caffeine, and their decaffeinated no more than 0.05%, again though this doesn't make it all that simple for a consumer to work out how much caffeine is going to end up in their cup.
