Stop off at Samye Ling Tibetan Buddhist monastery west of the bothy; the tea room is decorated in traditional Tibetan style. Dalnashallag bothy near Newtonmore is more of a shelter than a bothy you can comfortably relax in for the evening. It is quite small, but charming nonetheless. This bothy is mostly used by locals and those hiking the East Highland Way. This is what makes this bothy special- no one, aside from those that live in the area, really knows about it. Located nearby are the remains of an old village- you’ll need to look very closely for the foundations of some of the buildings that still remain, but they are marked on OS maps. I normally advocate a leave no trace policy for wild camping, but in a bothy I suggest you do leave a record of your stay, in that the place is now cleaner and tidier. You’ll generally find a brush and dustpan, so use it.

Doesn't mean I'm not still quite concerned about publicity, but if there is going to be such publicity, at least the book is well done. I do see you point of view though, and know how much folk like yourself have done, with less thanks than you deserve, to maintain the unique places we love. The Ben Alder Estate came under new ownership in 2011 and its infrastructure has been greatly improved, including renovation work on the bothy, which now sports a new roof and windows. The building consists of three rooms accessed by a natty little porch. We hope the Bothy Book will be a place for learning, developing and committing to action as we look to make Scotland safer, healthier and more equal. Be respectful to everyone in the bothy. Bothies are for everyone to enjoy. Just because you’re there first doesn’t mean you have more rights than late arrivers. Be kind, share the space.
