Annie had its world premiere on August 10, 1976, at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut, under the direction of Michael P. Price. Kristen Vigard was the first actress to play the title role. However, the producers soon decided that Vigard's genuinely sweet interpretation was not tough enough for the street-smart orphan. After a week of performances, Vigard was replaced by Andrea McArdle, who had been playing one of the other orphans, Pepper. Vigard went on to become McArdle's Broadway alternate. This book made me cry and cheer and root for Annie, as she struggles to cut a better life for herself. I like that she is a strong character- no tears or whining for this little champ. Therefore, she goes on my list of Badass girls.The first piece of evidence to show this is noting the characters. In the book, the author portrays Annie as tough on the outside, but sweet on the inside. She is showed in the movie in the same fashion. In " Makeover", an episode of Glee, Sarah Jessica Parker as Isabelle Wright with Kurt Hummel and Rachel Berry sing "You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile".
