About this deal

Designed to give maximum stripping performance on paints in an outdoor setting. Easy to use and safer than traditional solvent based strippers. Wow, thanks so much. I put a lot of effort into these to try and make them the best they can be and I regularly update them. The minis will never look sprue new, but hopefully you can get them to a stage where it's impossible to tell they were stripped when repainted When writing this post I took a spare resin part I had, just to test it. As the post was so long I decided not to add this part, but I’ve since realised it needs to be covered. Although it's mostly safe in small quantities (70% IPA is the main ingredient of many antiseptic hand gels) gloves is still a good idea when you're soaking your hands in 99%, and work in a well ventilated room. (don't drink it, obviously)

I was fairly sure that the last time I bought this for the same price that it was a lot bigger. Its good stuff (i use it to strip paint from miniatures) but I just wish it was in a bigger pot or a little cheaper. To keep uPVC surfaces, such as windows, doors, sills, garden furniture etc looking clean it is important to carry out routine housekeeping on these items. Wash area thoroughly with clean soapy water. Ensure area is completely clean and dry before repainting Coatings removed include: Water based coatings, Varnishes, Primers (including aerospace), Primers containing chrome, Oil based paints and Emulsion.IPA, Isopropyl alcohol, is a fire hazard as stated before, so avoid heat sources and especially open flames. And as all volatile alcohols, you need a well ventilated workspace to avoid dizziness from the vapours - the boiling point may be relatively high but its vapour pressure makes it quite volatile. You can make all manner of thinners or drying retarders for your paints, I’ve not looked into this too much myself but mixed with a few other chemicals and household products you can apparently make some great support fluids at a fraction of the cost of what they sell for in stores. I’ll have a go at this for a future blog post. Just make sure you have some dropper bottles to store your mixes in. If it can't be helped, dilute with plenty of water before disposing in the drain, but do avoid that.

Non Toxic - safer for the user and the environment than traditional methylene chloride based products I had to use the full tin to remove the red lead paint from my sandstone door step, however, it did not remove all of it as I think the stone has absorbed the colour into the step over a period of a few years. It probably removed 85 percent of the original red paint but overall it definitely looks a lot better. The added bonus for me was the product was water based and not a mixture of chemicals overall very happy with the product and price.

FAQs

Non-Toxic – safer for the user and the environment than traditional methylene chloride based products Don't use IPA straight in a consumer-grade ultrasonic cleaner; in small quantities you'll probably get away with it, but it does have a very low flashpoint and nobody wants a fire! They use IPA for industrial degreasing in ultrasonics, but those are properly sealed machines. Much safer to put the IPA and minis in a closed plastic or glass container and put that in water if using an ultrasonic. As the owners, developers and manufacturers of the full BIOSTRIP range of paint strippers, we know that our products are capable of performing in the toughest of applications and situations. The latest cutting edge formulations produce excellent results when stripping a wide range of paints from almost any type of surface, including wood, furniture, masonry, metals, plastics. You can reuse the same alcohol indefinitely, just run it through a coffee filter to get the big chunks of paint out. It won't turn completely clear but will still be a pretty high concentration and can be used again. I would keep it in a different bottle to your fresh stuff Biostrip 20 is our original water based paint stripper designed for use on all “indoor” paints. Virtually odour free it is perfect for use in confined spaces. Also good on most plastics (always test a small area first) including models.

Does not give off hazardous or noxious fumes – ventilation not required. Suitable for use indoors or in confined spaces I recommend rubber gloves (normal washing up gloves are probably fine) and a respirator rated for vapours, I.E one you would use for working with spray paints. Not a cheapo dust mask! Also work in a well ventilated area, open a window etc. If it gets in your eyes somehow, rinse out with water. If your eyes are Goblin Green afterwards, go see a Painboy ;) I've found this is the most effective practical paint stripper. All the other solutions involve using various cleaning products that may not be available internationally which have various downsides such as damaging your glue or minis and leaving a nasty smell or residue. The reason I decided to stop after this 6-8 hour period is that whilst stripping, I suddenly vomited into my mouth a small amount. Then like the worrier I am, I even called an emergency medical helpline to ensure I hadn’t poisoned myself. (I hadn’t, and I was advised to stop worrying). The next day my thumb went really tight and stiff where it had been absorbing the alcohol and it took a few days to recover.Would it work? yes, I suppose, depending on the brand… would it work as well? again, it may or it may not, depending on the brand. But the point here was that Isopropanol isn’t a brand it’s a cheap product that does the job well and is available from anywhere. Does not give off hazardous or noxious fumes - ventilation not required. Suitable for use indoors or in confined spaces Remove paint with a damp sponge or cloth. If the substrate is not delicate a scraper can be used. Where appropriate a power washer is also effective
