About this deal

Based on appearance alone I like the Olympus 4 better. It doesn't get the ugly creases in it like many other shoes so. I've had more compliments on these shoes than I ever had on ANY shoes I've ever owned. The midfoot and heel areas are very snug-fitting whereas the toebox offers an enormous amount of space.

Despite the brand's statement that all of its shoes have a 0-mm drop, the Olympus 5 comes with a 2-mm heel-to-toe differential, based on our measurements: 33 mm (heel) - 31 mm (forefoot) = 2 mm.And if your route includes some paved sections, the cushioning will keep your feet happy on the harder surfaces as well. There are a couple of (minor) gripes with this New Olympus compared to the former Version that made me buy the 4.0 again though.

The tongue is on the thinner side, but you would really have to crank down the laces to get any direct lace feel.

I have 2 pairs of Lone Peaks and have even used them to hike a 22 miler with 6000 elevation no problem. My recent run last week of 24.5 left the tip of my right foot all swollen and in a lot of pain.. was thinking because I was running not hiking I needed more cushion. I only have 1 week before my 50k not sure wether to use new Lobe Peak 5 or Olympus 4. Just received both and don’t have a lot of time to break them in. Both feel good. Any suggestions? Absolutely, and I'm right there with you. The Olympus 4 midsole is the same material as the Timp 1.5 midsole, and while they have a similar bounce to them, but I definitely think the Evo Mafate 2 has a little more responsive, and faster midsole than the Oly 4. It isn't a massive swing for me, and I think the Oly 4 is the most fun of the Olympus line up, but the EM2 is a really fast shoe. Or at least it can be on someone else's feet :) But if you like a lot of cushion and a shoe that can hold up to some serious wear and tear, you should definitely consider the Olympus 4.0.

The upper is engineered mesh with a few strategically placed overlays for reinforcement, with minimal foothold reinforcement. The heel and toebox are where you’ll find most of the reinforcement, with the heel massively built up over last year. So, in traction department, it's safe to say Olympus 4.0 = Lone Peak 4.5 > Olympus 3.5 for most of the cases. Conclusion The shoe's forefoot width (110.8 mm) is average compared to other running shoes (111.7 mm). But what makes it impressive is the heel width (100.2 mm) which is 11.5(!)mm wider than the average. The weight of the whole shoe is the same though (within 5grams each) as far as my 2 pairs of 4.0 AND the 5.0 pair i got, so no disadvantage at least here with the 5.0.
