About this deal

Sitty had a strong personality and presence (like my child), and I sometimes found tins of real cat food in my supermarket trolley. Inga Moore has beautifully depicted two British streets. One street contrasts with the other, in a didactic kind of way to be fair — in Aristotle Street the neighbours don’t talk to each other, whereas in Pythagoras Place, one street over, they do. Sid has six owners, lives in six houses and has six dinners a day. Life is just about purrfect . . . Sid is a cat who is addicted to having six meals a day and glories in this lifestyle. Manipulative, persuasive and a charmer he has wrapped everybody round his little paw - each owner believes that Sid belongs to them only... until the day he is found out! This is a funny story of a Sid the cat who unbeknown to the residents of Aristotle Street has six different owners who all feed him dinner... Sid clearly has an appetite.

Sid the cat lives at number one Aristotle Street. He also lives at number two, number three, number four, number five, and number six. A very popular story with children and cat lovers. Sid is one of the boldest and cheekiest of the many picture book cats. And now, my father has died, and his widower returned to the land of his birth, leaving Pippa and Katie Cat needing a new home. Neighbours were popping in daily, but the cats were spending more time away from home, probably seeking human company. Years later, when my cat-loving child moved to a shared house with uni friends, a cat they dubbed Shia LaFluff often came in through the window. Wary of creating a Sid situation, they offered cuddles, play, and water, but never food.

It's a sweet story of a cat who really thinks he's got it sussed, with all six owners believing Sid belongs to them… until they all find out. Busted! Leone McDermott. "Six-Dinner Sid". Booklist. American Library Association . Retrieved 23 September 2021. Think instead of the idiomatic expression ‘a dose of your own medicine’. Drinking disgusting medicine is punishment for Sid, for being disloyal and disingenuous. (For being a cat, basically.) ANAGNORISIS All is perfect for Sid – until the day he catches a dreadful cough. Then it is off to the vet not once, but six times! Inga Moore’s humorous illustrations capture Sid’s sly nature. SHORTCOMING

Each of Sid’s ‘fursonas’ equate to a different cat archetype as established by folklore, nailed down by T. S. Eliot. DESIRE The mask comes off! The vet sees the same cat six times and makes a few phone calls. This is the big reveal. Six-Dinner Sid". Horn Book Guides. Media Source Inc. 1991 . Retrieved 23 September 2021. Delightful story and pictures. The silo mentality of the inhabitants of Aristotle street is exploited by the eponymous cat to score six dinners every day - at some psychic cost as he must remember six distinct names and identities, but the illustrations show him becoming pleasingly plump at the end of the day so the stress of performing the different roles required of him does not seem too overwhelming but perhaps that stress does precipitate the cough that exposes the dangers of the Aristotelian approach to life and brings to an end one phase of Sid's heroic life, dedicated to the pursuit of life, liberty and six dinners a day and the rejection of the bourgeois anthropocentrism of the Aristotelians. The Numicon Shapes can be explored in a variety of different ways to encourage children to learn about number. They can also be used in counting and calculation activities.

What are some practical number activities for EYFS?

Like most cats I’ve known, Sid in all of his/her forms is utterly driven by food. It’s amazing he is not more chunky. Moore keeps him slim so that she can emphasis his bloated belly after his six meals. OPPONENT We couldn’t find Pippa anywhere in or out, but Katie took an instant liking to her potential new humans, and they to her. She went home with them and settled very contentedly, immediately. This original picture book classic has sold over 250,000 copies and is in the Daily Telegraph's top 50 children's books of all time. Silo mentality is a reluctance to share information with employees of different divisions in the same company, or in this case, street.) PLAN

Numicon Shapes are a handy resource for number activities with young children. Children learn to identify each Numicon Shape and associate it with a number. Unbeknownst to each of his owners, Sid the cat lives with six different people on the same street. By doing so, he’s able to get six different dinners every night! He also answers to six names, sleeps in six beds, and maintains six different personalities. Six-Dinner Sid". Magpies: Talking About Books For Children. Vol.7. Magpies Magazine. November 1992. p.37.
