About this deal

Rather than just ‘buying in’ a third-party smart system from the likes of Google, Roku or LG, the 50UK3163DB unexpectedly deploys a smart system of Toshiba’s own design. Even more surprisingly, this system really isn’t bad. Its presentation is compact but effective, for the most part tidily fitting its content links and apps into a couple of ‘shelves’ superimposed over the bottom few inches of the picture. If ‘Device connected’ message is displayed, then the pairing was successful. If the connection fails, retry. The Toshiba smart platform also offers a good range of streaming apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, Britbox, YouTube, Twitch, BBC Sounds, Deezer and Chilli. Disney+ is notable by its absence though so other sets like the While you won’t be blown away by the audio that the UK31 can produce, the sound quality of its 20W speaker system is more than enough to get the job done for those on a tight budget. It’s bright enough for everyday living room duties and is a solid option for gamers, thanks to an enviably low input lag.

Toshiba 55UK3163DB TV: review and data sheet - technobattles

We test every TV we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product. The 55UL5A63DB’s speakers are tuned by Onkyo, but the UL5A misses out on the “Enhanced” speakers of the UL7A and the front-firing efforts of the TL7A.Using this menu you can discover and pair devices that use Bluetooth wireless technology, and start to use them with the TV. Follow the on-screen instructions, and then start the device discovery. A list of available Bluetooth devices will be displayed. Select the device you want to connect from the list, and press the OK button to pair the device. The 50UK3163DB’s claimed contrast ratio of 5,000:1 is reasonably promising by affordable LED TV standards, though the set’s measured peak brightness (taken on a white HDR window covering 10% of the screen) of 336 nits doesn’t promise a particularly exciting HDR performance. If the TV is missing some channels, we would recommend carrying out an automatic channel scan to tune in these channels, and if necessary trying a First Time Installation or Factory Reset through the menu. TRU Flow TRU Flow analyses the image and frames to minimise judder effect and keep up with fast paced action scenes. We will store the User’s personal data for the required period of time which is necessary for the fulfillment of the aforementioned purposes.

Toshiba 50UK3163DB review: a cheap 4K TV that punches above

The available picture modes include Cinema, Natural, Dynamic, Sports and Game alongside their HDR versions. Cinema, Natural and Dynamic are your best bets, but they come with caveats. The 50UK3163DB isn’t just unexpectedly bold with HDR, either. It also gets impressive value from its native 4K resolution. Good-quality native 4K sources, especially 4K Blu-rays, look much richer in texture, clarity and depth than HD images do, despite the 50-inch screen being fairly small by today’s 4K standards.

Dolby Atmos®

TRU Micro Dimming TRU Micro Dimming improves contrast, focussing on all the different regions of the image. The fact that its HDR support stretches to Dolby Vision is particularly welcome, as it shows a genuine interest in trying to give consumers a premium picture experience. In fact, Dolby Vision tends to have more beneficial impact on relatively affordable TVs like this Toshiba than it does on really high-end sets. You have got the right to lodge a complaint to a suitable supervisory authority in a manner and under the procedure prescribed by the applicable provisions of law on personal data protection if you believe that the processing of your personal data breaches the above provisions. Contains a token that can be used to retrieve a Client ID from AMP Client ID service. Other possible values indicate opt-out, inflight request or an error retrieving a Client ID from AMP Client ID service. It’s worth noting that the UK31 is best-watched square on. Off-axis viewing loses colour depth and contrast.

Toshiba TV Support - Toshiba TV

Toshiba has pinpointed its picture performance as an area of growth, developing the TRU Picture Engine. It breaks down the TV’s picture performance into three parts: micro dimming, motion control and upscaling. If multiple variations of your router appear in the network selection screen, select the one which does not have 5GHz at the end.

There’s Freeview Play for access to catch-up TV, on-demand services and live TV. And Toshiba hasn’t scrimped on the smart side either, with the revamped UI home to such apps as Netflix, Prime Video and Rakuten TV. The new UI is part of a tile/row interface– scroll up or down and there’s access to Sources, Settings or Live TV. To access Freeview channels, the TV will need to be tuned into a digital aerial. Connecting the TV to the internet will allow you to access the SMART features and applications on the TV, but not the full channel list. Lastly, the remote is a big, old-fashioned hunk of plastic – and it isn’t the most responsive either. There’s a smaller remote, but that comes with the more expensive UL7A model. Apps From the latest movies and trending music to your favourite boxsets, we've got it all. The top streaming apps including Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Freeview Play built in as standard up to date and ready to go. The UL5A sports a surprising number of HDMI inputs (four). Other connections include an optical out, LAN, satellite and aerial antenna, two USBs and, interestingly, VGA and component connections. While it makes sense to include the latter for those who wish to connect a PC or other legacy equipment, it does feel antiquated.

Detail levels are quite high, and dialogue is never overwhelmed. The mid-range is quite open and expressive, and escalates decently well to meet the challenge of big action movie moments. TRU Resolution TRU Resolution upscales a wide variety of non 4K content, delivering a more refined image that feels fully immersive." Used to ensure user session remains with the same AWS instance to improve performance and stability. The models have no equivalent in the North American or Australian markets, because these Toshiba branded sets are produced under a pan-European licensing agreement with European maker Vestel. The ability to play audio/video files from the network is unreliable: the "audio video sharing" option often disappears from the list of sources, even though it is enabled in settings. The set’s upscaling is quite effective: standard definition DVD footage looks reassuringly smooth, with jaggies on diagonals smoothed out, while HD Blu-ray content is pixel dense, mapped to 2160p. Given that these are some of the most popular services out there offering great shows like The Mandolarian and Ted Lasso, it’s not just disappointing but surprising that you can’t access them natively through this TV.
