About this deal

Sonically the Atom HE has all the traits we'd expect from the Atom, characterised by impressive insight, dynamism and musicality, but its presentation is even more sophisticated and open, with greater separation of instruments and superb levels of detail. Alternatively, gamers can just output from their console at 4K/60fps resolution (effectively the default premium display option anyway) and all will be fine and dandy. Maybe you’ve invested time and money matching your receiver with your speakers and setting it all up, and don’t feel like going through the trouble and expense to replace it. Please write articles about somethink you know about, this is just waste of webspace, sorry. Its also misleading people by comparing it to entry level hifi systems like the sonos. People reading this here, who buy a pi4 for this purpose are just wasting money and should know, that at least a DAC board is needed to make this here work. Even then you are not at sonos level of quality and by far not in hifi territory, but this wasnt intended, i know. Wifi audio receivers connect to your home network and receive streaming audio routed through a central hub (ie: your wifi router) from your computer or smartphone. The range extends as far as your home wifi network, and many wifi audio receivers support multi-room setups. That means you’d be able to play music from a single music source over multiple stereos in different rooms of your house, provided they’re all connected to the same wifi network. Bluetooth audio receivers aren’t quite there yet (but will get there soon enough).

Cambridge Audio has earned quite the rep for its consumer audio offering. Rather than loading up their speakers and receivers with flashy extras, they stay laser-focused on high-quality audio and impeccable design. The AXA35 isn’t the most potent receiver and certainly doesn’t offer the I/O spread of more expensive units. But it provides 35W-per-channel of truly balanced sound, a moving magnet phono input that is extra friendly for record players, and some tone-shaping controls to give an impressive audio response. In short, it’s everything you’ll need to let your stereo speakers shine. The Logitech Bluetooth audio adapter has one of the best ranges in a Bluetooth receiver. We tested it and found a range of about 50 feet, 30% or more than most others. It doesn't have many other bells and whistles you might find in other receivers, but for the price, you're getting a tiny, durable little receiver that can do what it needs to do. Standards change all the time, but the bare minimum right now is support for HDR and Dolby Vision, and at least HDMI version 2.0 or better. All of these models support not only 4K and HDR video but 8K support as well, even if 8K content is hard to find. Connectivity-wise, streamers can boast AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, UPnP compatibility, and USB ports. Regardless of the model, you’ll be able to play local music files from a connected NAS drive and play thousands of internet radio stations. You'll also be able to play from your favourite music streaming services– at least Spotify and quite probably higher-quality alternatives such as Tidal or Qobuz are built-in.The compact Yamaha WXA-50 connected amp lets you stream all your music from a smartphone, tablet or computer via Bluetooth, AirPlay or DLNA. It’s also capable of accessing web radios, as well as many streaming services. If you're on a budget, we like the Besign BE-RCE long-range Bluetooth audio adapter. It has Bluetooth 5.0, aptX technology, and CD-quality sound from up to 100 feet away. The receiver is powered by micro USB and requires pressing the power button to turn it on. The Roksan Attessa BluOS amplifier features a phono input to connect a turntable. There are optical ins and outs for digital audio support and HDMI inputs to use this unit as a fully controllable receiver for your whole entertainment system. And, of course, if you want to use it as a traditional stereo amp, it’ll do that well, too. A Bluetooth receiver is a relatively small investment that opens possibilities. Some things to look for in a Bluetooth audio receiver include audio codecs, range, and output types. Bluetooth 5.0 is a great find since it offers an impressive range and excellent audio codecs. While the new Atom has been designed with headphones users in mind, it can, of course, also be used as a streaming preamplifier, either connected to a power amp or a pair of active speakers. The SL-G700M2 remains a beautifully made box, with precision controls and a silky smooth disc drawer – the quality of fit and finish is among the best we have seen at this level. Some niggles from the previous first-generation remains, namely the app software for the streaming control isn't the best we've seen, but it still gets the job done. What! No Linn Streamers. Have the What HiFi reviewers gone deaf or fallen out with Linn? Surely the Selekt, Akurate or Klimax deserves a place in this list. I have a Majik DSi Network Streamer. It is at least as good if not better than half the ones on this list and it has a superb power amplifier built in, for free!Easy to setup: Simply pair your smart phone or tablet to the audio adapter with a single button press. There’s something enduringly elegant about Marantz’s AV component design. The curved fascia with small porthole display speaks of legacy and old-school musicality. But don’t let that fool you, this AV receiver is also a movie beast on the cutting edge. We found its audio performance to be sublime, with effortless control of the soundstage. Never feeling under pressure, sonic placement is always precise.

On the other hand, wireless audio technology has gotten so good that your digital music’s often indistinguishable from CD audio quality. The technology is there for you to enjoy, why miss out? Finding the best AV receiver isn’t just about HDMI inputs. Sure we like plenty of inputs, but the number of outputs are important too, particularly if you plan on running both a flatscreen and a projector in the same room.Dolby Atmos compatibility is a given (and by default that means you’ll get DTS:X too), but how many channels do you need? Given the option, 9 channels always trump 7, because it opens up more speaker options such as 5.1.4 or 7.1.2, for example. The DLNA/UPnP protocol should be used if you want to listen to studio-quality audio files as AirPlay technology doesn’t support files encoded over 16 bits and 48kHz. Therefore, 24-bit/192kHz FLAC files and DSD 64, DSD 128, DSD 256 and DSD 512 files can only be played using the DLNA protocol. And we're glad they did. This Technics streamer sounds superb. Its presentation is clear, detailed and insightful, managing to organise the musical information in a cohesive and entertaining way. Its main talent lies in delivering music in a balanced manner, regardless of genre or source. Bold and authoritative when the occasion calls for it; delicate where needed. This same character is present across all digital inputs and when used as a standalone DAC; it can be used with a wide range of partnering kit, too.
