And maybe, in addition to closing circles and looking for roots, journeys of second-generation members to their parents’ former homes are a way of figuratively laying that stone, showing that someone still cares and remembers. “To be unremembered is to die a second death”, writes Rabbi Theodore Friedman in an essay entitled Do you Remember? And so, these visits are actually an affirmation of life, having transmitted the onus of remembrance to a new generation. This book is appropriate for a range of ages. It is most appropriate for children aged between 5-11 years. The story begins with a polar bear on a tiny bit surrounded by only the sea – all the ice has melted. Since he can no longer survive there he sets out to find a place to live. Eventually he finds a boat which makes his journey easier but he can’t seem to find a place to live. Along the way he meets a panda at a harbour, the panda is completely surrounded by a massive city, after that he meets an orang-utan surrounded by tree stumps. Together these animals travel through storms until they reach an island which is home to the already extinct dodo. The book starts off as a simple writing but as the author pens down his experiences while travellimg in search of answers to his spiritual quest, it gets interesting.

Calling on her own mind-body healing knowledge, and the teachings of scientists such as Dr Deepak Chopra and Dr Candace Pert, Brandon innocently began to develop the transformational healing work that would become The Journey®. You might be experiencing the effects of known and unknown trauma. We all have life wounds – good news we can heal from them. The Journey Home: Autobiography of an American Swami is a 2008 auto-biographical account [1] of a young nineteen-year-old boy, Richard Slavin's journey from the suburbs of Chicago to the caves of the Himalayas and through this, his transformation [2] to being Radhanath Swami, one of India's most respected spiritual leaders and an ISKCON figure. [3] Mystic yogi's, gurus and an epic quest through spiritual India, is a concise description of this memoir. Within his autobiography, Radhanth Swami is seeming to weave a colorful tapestry of adventure, mysticism and love. [4] Overview [ edit ] Author Radhanath Swami in Mumbai, 2006

This book would be great for young people/teens because the author has a lot of "profound" revelations that most thinking educated adults would have already experience by the age of 27 (I hope). However the politics and social commentary are handled with an iron fist, and there is no deft touch with it! Figure 5.1.Teresa’s father, Lorenz von Sommaruga, as a 15-year-old before leaving Berlin in 1936 (From family collection). What is the goal I should aspire to? I wondered. Should I strive to transcend dualities to become one with an impersonal, formless God? Or should I strive to purify my heart to serve a personal Lord with unconditional love in His eternal abode?Readers follow Richard Slavin (born December 7, 1950) from the suburbs of Chicago to the inner sanctums of Vrindavan as he transforms from a young seeker to a renowned spiritual guide. [3] The Journey Home is an intimate account of the steps to self-realization and also a penetrating glimpse into the heart of mystic traditions and the challenges that all souls must face on the road to inner harmony and a union with the Divine . Through near-death encounters, apprenticeships with advanced yogis and years of travel along the pilgrim's path, Radhanath Swami eventually reaches the inner sanctum of India's mystic culture and finds the love he has been seeking. [5] I started reading this book somewhat grudgingly and after a tumultuous ride on a journey with the author, I came to this. It describes the author's confusion about whether God is personal or impersonal and how one day Srila Prabhupada removed his confusion. I had the same confusion regarding the nature of the divine and this removed my confusion as well. But unlike the author, I lean towards striving to attain the divine as impersonal through meditation. I will always remember this book for this section which inspired me to resume my spiritual quest. Kevin Billett has partnered with Brandon Bays in The Journey for some 18 years. He is co-founder and CEO of The Journey companies and has co-designed with Brandon many of the curriculum events. He is pioneer of the Visionary Leadership Programme, Out of the Blue and The Enneagram Masterclass I felt a warm, peaceful sensation flood my chest. With one hand Srila Prabhupada stretched his index finger upward. “The Lord’s impersonal, all-pervading energy is called Brahman. And Bhagavan is the personal form of God, who is the energetic source and never under the influence of illusion. Take for example the sun. The form of the sun as a planet and the formless sunlight can never be separated, as they exist simultaneously. They are different aspects of the sun. Similarly, there are two different schools of transcendentalists who focus on different aspects of the one truth. The impersonalists strive to attain liberation in the Lord’s impersonal, formless light, while the personalists strive for eternal loving service to the Lord’s all-attractive form. There is no contradiction.
