About this deal

Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri... A fun, quirky middle grade story. Clearly more amusing for children than perhaps adults, but I could still enjoy the creative situations, settings and scenes. I absolutely loved Eric the troll, I cannot even begin to describe how much my heart just felt for him!! Amy Sparkes has done a fantastic job with this book. The characters have grown and become more solid and believable, and the story was both interesting and character-driven. On top of that, the writing was perfectly paced and easy to read. Now that I have finished this book I am excited to dive into the next book in this series. Anyhow, this book is a bit deceptive in that the writing is huge so the length is much shorter than it appears. This does mean that the pacing is equally huge, but the character and plot development naturally suffers because of it.

Thanks so much for your lovely message and for everything that you do with Book Wagon. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. As a standalone book this is a great read, one that will appeal to readers of every age. Parents will enjoy reading this with their kids, and adults will have a lot of fun with the strange characters and weirdness. This isn’t the first Amy Sparkes book, but it’s the first of hers that I’ve read, and thanks to how good this is I’d definitely be interested in reading more of her stuff.

This book is truly captivating, the reader is always at the heart of the adventure and there is never a dull moment because it is fast-paced and quirky. I would recommend this story to Key Stage 2 where children can explore the themes of family, friendship and sibling rivalry. It is beautifully written and would appeal to anybody who loves magical themes and stories about witchcraft and wizardry. The book had its own moments of intense wonder, joy and excitement and lots of laughs out loud moments. The characters were also cute and interesting! The whole - found family - trope is becoming my favourite with every passing day!Dieses Buch knüpft an den ersten Band an, sodass es spannend mit Neun und Eiderdaus und Co. weitergeht. Der Schreibstil ist leicht zu lesen und auch die Geschichte hat es diesesmal wieder in sich. This magical little confection of a novel is the second in a delightful series marketed stylistically as "Terry Pratchett meets Diana Wynne-Jones". I was pleased to find that, indeed, this novel has the wry humour of the former, the whimsy of the latter, and the sparkling charm of both. Nine has a great storyline and so when I put this through CAWPILE, characters came out at 8/10 because they all had a redeemable quality. Nine just wants a family! Flabby wants tea. Eric just wants to clean!! (my heartttt) and Spoon wants to find Dish! Noch kurz zum Cover: ich mag es total, wie auch schon bei Band 1. Es ist genauso bunt und schräg und ausgefallen, wie die Story.

Ray is getting used to life as Rainbow Grey - she now has ALL the magical weather powers at her fingertips, although she hasn't quite mastered them yet!Sparkes has also managed to create a really intriguing world, and I just wanted to spend more time inside the house, seeing more of these weird characters, and the world of magic around them. There are hints of bigger things here, of other worlds and places that exist outside of reality, of monsters and creatures from myth and legend. I found myself wanting to learn more about this, and I’d have been over the moon if I’d been told that this was the start of a series that would go on to see the characters having more adventures in magic and weirdness. For younger middle-grade readers this books is filled with magic and mystery and will have the reader engaged in the life of the characters, especially Nine. Reading this sequel right after the first book. I enjoyed the first book as a whole although there were some unfulfilled expectations (please see my brief review for the first book). There are secrets hidden beneath the ice . . . bring the magic home in the frosty fourth instalment of the bestselling Pinch of Magic Adventures, from the award-winning Michelle Harrison.
