About this deal

Another length of fire rope is inserted into the collar and fitted around the circumference of the flue pipe. Fire cement is now rammed into the collar so there are no air voids. The joint is then smoothed off and left for a while. Fire cement goes hard when exposed to heat. Many installers use fire mastic for this joint.

Must I line my chimney? Best read this article but most likely the answer is yes. Do I have to fit a chimney liner? Clean the surface that you plan on cementing with a stiff-bristled brush. Scrub the area using a dry brush, paying special attention to areas with lots of build-up. Afterwards, use a cloth to lightly wet the surface with water and clean up loose pieces. Clear all rust, dirt and debris from the area prior to application of furnace cement.Thank you for this article. Last year we bought a used wood stove that looks like it was homemade (no manufacturer identifier markings). They did a good job but I want to add gasket around the door to make it better. I will have to mark on the stove to determine the size of rope I need as there are no channels. Thank you again for the info and help. Is this dangerous (I have a carbon monoxide detector anyway) and how much roughly could I expect to pay to have it replaced. I have had the stove for two years. At the end of everything... he even asked to see if we would like a quote for the other fire place we need! If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. Better way is soft fibre (non asbestos, that's been gone for a while now) thermal rope or flat tape which fits tightly between collar and flue pipe, and allows expansion in any direction. Can be tight to fit tho and sometimes impossible, all depending on stove and flue mfrs' respective manufacturing tolerances.

I like to have the join between my single skin flue and the liner adapter visible but lots of installers do do it with the liner adapter above the reg plate as your pic shows.Replace your old, worn out gasket in your fireplace, or wood, pellet, or coal stove to restore it's efficiency and safety Will your wood burning stove fit in your recess WITH the required air gaps around it? This is obviously not an issue if your stove will be freestanding.
