About this deal

A silent successor to Nokia’s relaunched 3310 (which only supported a 3G network), although slightly less curvy and attractive is the Nokia 225. This is a cheap, but capable minimalist phone running on 4G. Which is why I decided to put the best basic phones to the test. In truth, the market isn't that wide – only a handful of manufacturers bother making them – but there is quite a discrepancy from product to product. While reviewing the dumbphones, I found that 'dumb' means different things to different people: some of the devices are a lot smarter than they let on; and some really aren't. This tiny device runs the latest Android version and allows you to do most other things you can do on a flagship smartphone. Okay, you’ll probably get tired of the small size doing any long-term typing, but it’s a nice trade-off for such a small 4G phone that runs for nearly a week on a single charge.

There’s also two sim card slots, if you’re the type who wants to have multiple numbers for one phone. Not too many phones have that feature these days. Removing the camera module: You’d need to disassemble your phone for this — the bright side, however, is that you’ll be able to reinstall your smartphone’s camera when required. To prevent accidental damage to your phone, we recommend engaging a professional to handle this complex operation instead of giving it a go on your own. I’d choose text msg, phone, calendar, notes, directions (walking, public transit, bike and driving), music (either Spotify, pandora or Apple Music) and a podcast or audible app. Our final set has reliable products and we also worked hard to maintain variety within our selection to accommodate personal preferences. Our collection of smartphones for your daily usage caters high-quality, cheap and value-for-money requirements. I’m looking for a “light” phone with fully functioning and current directions. I’d like to see direction functionality and podcast or audible features on the rating list.

If, like me, the original Nokia 3310 represented your first phone, then this new device is probably closer to how you remember your second or third device in terms of features. The whole thing feels very 2008 – not that that’s a bad thing, it’s just quite a step up from the original 3310. Not so great for the nostalgia factor, but in general we're talking about improvements, not criticisms. In terms of basic phones, the B30 is almost as basic as they come. It calls, it texts, and it does not much else. Oh sure, you can see from the feature list above that it does a few other things, but the operating system is so obtuse, you’ll have to go digging for those features and they’re absolutely not worth going out of your way to find. If you’re after a phone that can take a beating and will keep working after you accidentally drop it down the stairs, this is the one. It’s waterproof, dust-proof, drop protected and has a battery that lasts for 34 days on standby.Even so, there are a few compelling reasons to consider the new 8110. The battery life is very good. I charged it one week before I came to write this and the battery is currently sitting at 49pc. Admittedly I haven’t used it that much but it’s definitely something to consider if you’re camping or at a festival and won’t have access to a charger. Today’s smartphones aim to do it all, while feature phones manufacturer make models for calls and texts. Sometimes they will also have a radio, a camera and some classic late ‘90s mobile games like Snake.

The only thing you’ll need to do to get the phone set up is plug in a Nano SIM card card. Then you’re good to go. Green Zones – Camera-enabled smartphones, tablets and laptops are allowed to be brought in. You can’t take unauthorised photos or videos. To be fair, it’s exactly the phone you’d expect a company best known for its tractors and bulldozers, and could probably survive being run over by one too. For those who work in an industrial setting or simply find themselves out and about in the great outdoors a lot, that ruggedness could definitely come in handy. You’ll have heard these simple handsets referred to as dumb phones, simple phones, or feature phones. While the models aren’t all the same, the one thing that they all share is a basic approach and limited functions. The smartphone is for large size, is great with response time, It is good for decent size and has an incredible design. Finally, the smartphone is intelligent, it sounds great and has a new design. The smartphone is perfect for great quality, It works with good graphics and has a very nice design. Most importantly, the smartphone works with all major carriers. Try the Sonim XP3Plus. Yea, it has text and Internet – IF you turn them on which I do not. Texting is a miserable way to communicate, I turned it off with my carrier – along with Internet which would be pretty miserable on this phone as well. But as a phone, its fantastic! Purely in terms of looks, the new Nokia 8110 is one of my favourite phones of the last ten years. The original version was known as the ‘banana phone’ on account of its slightly convex spine. The new one is available is bright banana yellow and definitely lives up to that moniker. Too busy with work and only need a basic phone for calling and sending text messages? The Philips E109C (available on 6cbx8w_7jx ) is one of the best non-camera phones that has all the specifications you’ll need for those long work nights. You can choose from the basic 2G Philips E109C or go for the 4G version where all your phone’s contents will load up faster. This best non-camera phone also boasts a memory capacity of 256GB, so you’ll have more than enough space to store those important text messages. 6. Samsung E1272

The following phones are minimalist smartphones. It’s for when you appreciate the silence and being distraction-free, yet you can’t give up on those essential apps on your phone. Jelly 2, World’s Smallest 4G PhoneYou can also load a microSD card to play your music through the phone. And there's the ability to listen to the radio, which is a nice touch. Ultimately, the new Nokia 8110 can do a lot. Just be aware that you’re getting a smarter device than you might be expecting. Sandblasting the camera lens: A less delicate method, sandblasting your smartphone’s camera involves using a piece of sandpaper to blur the phone’s camera lens. While you’d run the risk of scratching other parts of your phone, this method is straightforward and effective. If you're not the sort for whom waiting holds much appeal, you could try the Smilyphone. Unfortunately I couldn't get hold of one of these to test it. It does have WhatsApp though, but other reviewers have said it is terrible to type with, so you might want to just cross your fingers that WhatsApp ends up coming to the 8110. Which basic phone has the longest battery life?
