About this deal

The cabling is a dark grey and has a slightly grippy texture (more on this later), and has been reinforced with para-aramid (the type of material that the brand Kevlar uses) for increased durability and “thousands of bend cycles”. These detachable buds attach to the included cable via gold-plated Fidelity+ MMCX connectors, which allow for a 360-degree swivel of each of the buds as well as the ability to swap out the included cabling to your preferred choice of MMCX compatible cable.

These earphones charm the ear, but their treble and upper-mids hog the limelight; they don’t allow the mids enough room in the rendering of the texture of vocals. The mid detail is there – it isn’t as soft as a pancake as it is in some lower-end earphones. But the choice to emphasise the treble and bass leaves the mids noticeably recessed in comparison to other similarly competent pairs. The venerable HD600, released in 1997 and based off the HD580 in 1993, later spun off to the HD650 in 2003 and then made cheaper in collaboration with Massdrop as the HD6XX in late 2018. The HD800, introduced in 2009 and then further refined into the HD800S in late 2015. The HD25, an industry staple in both the DJ and broadcasting world since 1988. And lets not forget the “concept headphone” models in the Orpheus, the HE-1, and various other “babies” in-between. Instrument fundamentals in the midrange generally have a very natural, life-like timbre, as you’d expect from the tuning experts at Sennheiser. Guitar strings and piano strikes are probably more influenced by the bass lift than any residual treble peakiness, of which there is very little. Annelie’s rendition of Tomorrow, from her solo piano masterpiece Hetrz, showcases the rich, smoky overtones of the sustain pedal rather than the brighter key strikes, and while Joe ‘Satch’ Satriani’s guitar riffs in Always With Me, Always With You are clear and crunchy, they’re also nicely rounded with a slightly warmer edge. Once a successful seal was made, the IE 300 offered a truly rich and spacious musical experience. One notable feature of these particular in-ear buds is their ability to create an excellent sense of space in their reproduction of music – a characteristic that’s very rarely found within the category.MMCX The Sennheiser has largely been used with the Astell & Kern KANN Alpha which has all three of the connections it supports. It has additionally seen testing with an Oppo Find X2 Neo via USB dongle. Some additional testing has then taken place on the Chord Electronics Mojo and Poly and Hugo2 and 2Go both running as Roon Endpoints. The test material has been FLAC, AIFF, DSD, Tidal and Qobuz. Before we deep dive into what you can expect to hear, let’s briefly discuss how the IE 300 does what it does. For starters, the IE 300 uses a derivative of the eXtra Wide Band (XWB) 7mm dynamic driver designed by Sennheiser’s André Michaelis more than 16 years ago to achieve the optimal sound profile in IEM form. This is the same driver design used in previous flagship IEMs like the IE 800 and IE 800S, and similar to the one used in the IE 900 as well, with a coherency that’s rarely found in multi-driver IEMs at any price point, let alone this one. IE 300 บริเวณท่อเสียงจะมีตะแกรงช่องเล็ก ๆ ในการแยกย่านเสียง และตัวจุกที่ให้มาก็จะมีตะแกรงเป็นช่องแบบเดียวกันครับ With the exception of the bass on “Adulthood,” all these differences were extremely minor, but the IE 300 never once gave me anything but stellar sound. Bottom line

The Sennheiser IE 300 offer excellent treble detail and clarity, particularly considering the sound isn’t particularly piercing or challenging on the ear. Their zest adds something to all kinds of music.

This may sound like I’m calling the Sennheiser IE 300 “one note” simplistic earphones. They aren’t, but I hear more complicated and nuanced imaging from earphones and headphones that are significantly worse in most other respects. These earphones also have a little more mid-bass than I’d usually expect from an “audiophile” pair, which reduces their transparency a bit. Coming from the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 (which really impressed me across the board), these fell a little short. Yes, the IE300s have bass but I felt that it wasn’t as impactful (boomy or punchy) as I would have liked them to be for the price. The easiest way I can describe it is like this: If I am watching an action movie where during an intense scene, I hear nothing but the thump-thump of a slow and dramatic heartbeat, I want to be able to “feel” that heartbeat through the audio. Not just hear it for the sake of it being inserted at that moment in the film. The 300’s soundstage and instrument separation wasn’t quite there either for me. I could hear the separation but it wasn’t as clean as I would have thought. The best way I can describe the soundstage is listening to music being played in a medium sized room. Mids were good, being placed front and center. The treble was controlled. This allowed for no fatigue nor ear piercingly high noises. Altogether, the IE300s sounded like a good pair of earbuds (albeit an expensive pair for what they are). I would put their sound signature as neutral, yet mildly warm. Key to the IE 900 is that Sennheiser hasn’t changed its basic preferred configuration to make them. Where many rivals are armature designs, with multiple drivers on each side, often supported by a dynamic driver handling the bass, the IE 900 has a single dynamic driver in each enclosure. This is responsible for the entire frequency response and the IE 900 uses an all new one called the X3R. This builds on the ‘Extra Wide Bandwidth’ principles that have been seen in the IE 800 and IE 800S and begins by increasing the size of the driver from 7mm… but only to 7.7mm. Sennheiser did have a brief stint with the pro-audio market, releasing the IE40 Pro, the IE400 Pro, as well as the IE500 Pro. Again, all IEMs catered to the pro-audio crowd (hence the “Pro” suffix) but now it seems that Sennheiser is ready to dip their toes into the audiophile pool once again. Listening to Fountains from Jogging House’s 2019 release Lure, the gentle fading in and out of each nuanced timbre appeared more distinct than ever before, but never to the point of feeling apart from the arpeggio bed and other textures that make up the ambient composition.

The IE 200 and IE 300 are both great IEMs that are priced in a generous way. I wish there was a space for both of these IEMs to exist, but only the IE 200 is readily available, and it’s not a bad trade-off at all. I think the IE 200 is a worthy upgrade from the IE 300, but there are some aspects of the later that you may personally prefer. Like with many of Sennheiser’s IEMs utilising the Helmholtz resonator technology that first popped up in the original IE800, the IE300 has a boosted treble response that is simultaneously sharp yet restrained enough not to fall into sibilance or harshness. Again, the IE300 has a treble that is decidedly north of neutral so those sensitive to higher frequencies should stay away regardless, but this has always been Sennheiser’s strong suit in the IEM game so it’s good to see that they’ve at least maintained it. Without having to concern itself with contemporary features, Sennheiser has been able to prioritise the fundamentals for the IE 300 – build and sound quality. It nails the former, and there’s plenty to like in the latter: they’re bolder and more authoritative-sounding than most, with majestic bass depth and wonderfully rich vocals among the highlights. In the box, you’ll find three sets of silicon tips as well as three sets of memory foam tips, along with a cleaning implement to keep your buds free from wax buildup. Also included is a rather swish soft shell case that will help keep your buds safe and tangle-free when not in use, complete with some cable and accessory organization straps within. In use The company has refined the 7mm ‘Extra Wide Band’ drive unitalso, as well as the chamber-within-a-chamber structure that helps manage airflow in an effort to produce a defined bass and equally satisfying midrange.

The build quality is excellent and with the soft, round edges the IE 300 looks comfy, high end and professional. As said, the Sennheiser IE 300 has a very plastic look at feel, but it’s actually very well built. You’ll find the starkest difference between these two IEMs in the midrange, where the IE 200 seems to improve the most. Both IEMs undergo emphasized regions of mid-bands, but the IE 200 is much more articulate with it. The IE 300 is a little disorganized in comparison, as it struggle more with balancing roominess in a closer sound profile. However, the IE 300 is still clear and well represented in the midrange, but the IE 200 is just snappier and more resolving with its details. Highs It also has an effect on how the Sennheiser IE 300 present music – or the sound field/soundstage, if you want to think of it in a different way.The IE 300 is not your typical V-shaped IEM, even though bass and treble are emphasised in almost equal measure. I don’t hear vocals as particularly recessed, especially male vocals, though they’re definitely not elevated like they tend to be on many Eastern-tuned IEMs. As such, I’d class the IE 300’s tonal shape as more steep U than pure V, with a warm, pleasant timbre that lends itself to a fairly smooth, though still quite lively listen across most music genres. Sennheiser is one of the most respected companies in audio and in the past years, Sennheiser has positively surprised us with a lot of top quality products such as the HD 800 (S), the HD 820, the HD 660 S, the HD 560 S and several other HD 5-series headphones. Sennheiser has also been active on the TWS market and the Momentum True Wireless 2 scores pretty well there. Bendable ear loops help keep the IE 300’s earpieces securely in place.
