About this deal

One of the coolest and most fun looking pairs of headphones available, the Sennheiser HD 25 are also really fun to listen to, with an excitingly energetic sound and deep, fast, solid bass. I am so happy I bought them! I’m a Global Elite in counter Strike, so I’m not a bad player, finally, I can “sound whore” as the best of them!

Selecting retro headphones constructed from durable materials can guarantee years of use. Therefore, ensure the vintage headphones you’re planning to buy are not only comfortable but durable and sturdy too. 5. Wired vs. Wireless The original retro headphones brand for the most authentic look. People may think you actually own a pair from the old days! That translates from materials all the way down to the analogue control knob used to play, pause, shuffle and adjust volume. That same control knob also works for Phone functionality to answer or end calls and even reject them. Talk to the hand – er – knob! These also work great for those of us with smaller ears, as the ear cup is somewhat subdued compared to other studio-style headphones. They are also surprisingly comfortable to wear – much more than their appearance might suggest – and designed for hours and hours of continuous use.

Panasonic RP-HTX80B review: Hitting the sweet spot - Pocket-lint

The Panasonic RP-HTX80B are light, and have full-size cups. This ensures they steer clear of the most common headphone comfort issues. They don’t hurt your ears, or clamp around your head too tightly. The headband is super-springy, though, making them secure enough to use on the treadmill. Gaming in these is really immersive, no matter if you are playing an F1 Racing game or Battlefield. Sennheiser is also known for precision, and that’s probably why they use the G4me Zero for all the big gaming tournaments around the world, which I use myself for gaming. There’s no folding mechanism here. The cups wiggle laterally a little to fit your head, but they don’t fold in to take up less space when off your head. If you’re an audiophile that prefers to sit next to a record player with a pair of headphones on, you know full well that feeling is unrivaled and music just sounds…different. And we have come pretty far in terms of audio devices, and even more so when we’re talking headphones. The soundstage is respectably wide, too. However, all the good bits aren’t enough to detract from the core issue, which is hard to ignore. If you want our recommendation, go for the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones. The metal honeycomb casing and 3D Wing Support that contours to your head design set these retro-styled headphones out from the rest. The Master and Dynamic MW65 are also incredibly fast, high resolution headphones, with transient response, resolution of detail, phase and time coherence and tonal purity – among many other aspects of sound reproduction – that are truly top notch. As we said there, Koss is by no means a new brand – they’ve been an audiophile secret weapon for decades. The first stereo headphones in history were actually the Koss SP/3, launched in the late 50s.

They have aptX technology and not only does Bluetooth aptX play music at a higher bitrate, but it also minimizes audio/video syncing issues, allowing you to watch movies with perfect lip-sync. This also gives you the freedom and convenience to move with 30 feet of wireless listening range. These Master & Dynamic MH40 headphones have become my number one choice, a testament to the value they offer. If you’re on the hunt for a high-quality pair of headphones with a touch of vintage passion, look no further. The MH40 is a sonic delight that you’ll cherish for years to come. They do a really good job rendering sound in games too, and they have that old-school look to them that we love. The headphones are plastic, aside from the aluminium cap that holds the Panasonic logo and the metal spokes of the headband. There are some nice touches to note. There’s a hand-stitched look to the headband, and the cable that attaches cup to band is fabric-coated. Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones stand out from the crowd for their great retro look owing to their aluminum honeycomb housing and 3D wing support that adjusts to your head’s shape.

The quality of the construction is excellent. We found that these headphones are well made and will last a long time. The plastic and metal components are made to be lightweight and portable. Besides being very convenient, their featherweight construction makes them a delight to wear. We would also appreciate an included carry case of some kind, but considering the high build quality, we'd be pretty happy putting the HTX80 loose in our bag. But not for long, as we'd much rather have these cans hugging our head and delivering the tunes. But where it really matters – in sound quality – the tech is extreme! Superb proprietary aluminum voice coils and the highest quality components and engineering lead to a sound that is not just fun, it is incredibly accurate and life-like. Now that we have everything out of the way let’s get to the top 10 greatest retro headphones. 1. Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air HeadphonesWhen we did focus on the sonics, we noticed that the Panasonic RP-HTX7 had a big, full and warm sound, with a slight emphasis on the midbass. Music that was already generous in this area, such as the album Villa Manifesto from Slum Village, could sometimes sound a little too boomy, but it never thumped its way into a one-note drone and still had decent pitch definition and clarity. Accurate and Fun– I was surprised by how many of my choices are, in fact, either designed for recording studio use, or have become favorites among recording artists and engineers. This is a reflection of how so many of the very best retro headphones are far more accurate and high fidelity than other choices in their class.
