About this deal

Because "I did something nice for you, so you're not allowed to criticize me or leave me" is TOTALLY NOT THE ABUSER 101 TAGLINE. I’m super busy and have a lot going on. How much time will I need to put aside to complete this course? This book was totally amazing! I was in tears near the end with all of the girls standing up together. They were there for each other, girls from all walks of life to stand up against those that try to make them something they are not, for trying to push them into corners to go along with things that shouldn't be. This book is all powerful in its own way. I’m frustrated with him, but I’m also frustrated with myself. That I can’t find the words to explain it to him. I’m totally sure he’s not doing it on purpose, but Seth is a guy, and he can’t ever know what it feels like to walk down a hallway and know that you’re getting judged for the size of your ass or how big your boobs are. He’ll never understand what it’s like to second guess everything you wear and how you sit and walk and stand in case it doesn’t attract the right kind of attention, or worse, attracts the wrong kind. He’ll never get how scary and crazy-making it is to feel like you belong to some big Boy Monster that decides it can grab you and touch you and rank you whenever and however it wants.”

When Viv first starts creating the Moxie 'zines and working towards dismantling the school's patriarchal system, she's so gung-ho about it that she tends to fly off the handle whenever anyone says anything incorrect. I think a lot of feminists have been in her shoes (I know I have, and it took me a few years to learn that I don't have to get angry at every person who hasn't been educated). Jameel, Rasha (April 15, 2021). "Moxie: A whitewashed account of second-wave feminism". The Daily Star. Archived from the original on 2023-08-22 . Retrieved 2021-06-20. Take it one Tiny Beetle Step at a time. Don’t sit down to Write A Book; work through the resources and lessons I provide, and attend the calls, and break it down. I have ADHD too! Many of my clients are neurodivergent and I am experienced in working with people with neurodiversities. I’ve designed this course to be as accessible as possible. Work through it all, attend the live calls, ask all the questions you need to, and you will finish this course with a manuscript and all the skills and knowledge you need to publish and create a beautiful book. Our ancient tabby cat, Joan Jett, is waiting for me when I open the front door after school. Joan Jett loves to greet us when we come home—she’s more dog than cat that way—and she lives to meow and howl and get your attention, which my mother says makes her a good match for her namesake, the human Joan Jett, this woman who was part of an all-girl band in the 1970s called The Runaways before she started her own group. When Claudia and I were younger, we used to make videos of Joan Jett the cat dancing to songs of Joan Jett the singer. I was chatting to my friend about how people seemed reluctant to commit to writing a book — and my friend suggested maybe people were just a little overwhelmed right now. And so MicroBook Magic was born in October 2022. Just four weeks later, the first 11 people were writing their MicroBooks. Vivian finds a note from an anonymous girl who says she was raped the previous year. Vivian gets "Moxie" supporters to stage a walkout in support of the girl. The majority of students participate, and Vivian reveals that she started "Moxie". second half of this book: FEMINIST CITY INTERSECTIONAL GLORY GIRLS BEING GIRLS TOGETHER AND BRINGING EACH OTHER UP FOR LIFE I LOVE IT and also a fair bit more making out than is my ideal So firstly, I really did watch the movie and think it was quite faithful. Having just reread the book, it’s actually nowhere near as close as I thought, but I do feel like they got the vibe just right. So if you’ve not read the book or watched the movie – you may want to beware! There will be spoilers ahead! Comparing the more minor plot elements

As much as I love her, I know she wouldn’t get it. Meemaw and Grandpa see the world one way. You go to church on Sunday, you don’t wear white after Labor Day, and you always say “Merry Christmas,” not “Happy Holidays.”INTERSECTIONALITY! Vivian is given a firsthand lesson in the problematic aspects of "white feminism" and learns how to take the extra steps needed to ensure complete inclusion of all women (not just the white girls).

Head cheerleader Emma comes forward as the rape survivor, stating that Mitchell, her ex-boyfriend, was her rapist. It happened the previous year when they were dating, and they called her "Most Bangable", which left her mortified. All the students are horrified and lend their support. Principal Shelly overhears and plans to punish Mitchell at last. One alumnus wrote her first draft during November, edited and polished it in December, got it typeset and ready to go in January, and published at the end of January. As part of onboarding week, you’ll dig into your reasons for writing, and figure out which idea is best for you right now — then we’ll get you writing and finishing it, so you can move onto the next MicroBook idea! I have The Fear, too. I’ve never met a writer that doesn’t. Every damn time I sit down to write and often when I’m just, you know, chilling, The Fear rears it’s hairy butt and moons me. You can use The Fear. I can help you. It promotes a victimhood mentality. It promotes a "The Big Bad Corrupt Menz are out to get us Poor Defenseless and Pure Women. We are literally always at the mercy of the ebil menz" mentality.

I loved how Viv didn't feel any ownership over the Moxie movement because in the end it belonged to all girls. I'd get so excited when a new girl was added to the team and the way the book spreads such a positive message about intersectional feminism. Viv, Lucy, Claudia, Emma and Keira are my new girl gang inspirations! I swerved away from a successful copywriting and marketing business to do what I do now: help the most incredible, weird, and wonderful people tell their stories with grace and passion so the world sits up and listens. Viv’s reaction to her mum’s boyfriend is more nuanced in the book, and also comes to a more sensitive end. However, I love that in the movie we get more of John (though him being played by Clark Gregg doesn’t hurt on that!) and that it feels a little more satisfying. In the book, Viv is only grudgingly giving him a chance. In the movie, she’s angrier but also we get to see her spend time with him and realise that she’s possibly taking out her feminist anger (and fear about things changing with her mum, I’m sure) on him.Although this is a MicroBook course and I encourage to you to write and publish your MicroBook — there’s no reason why it can’t be the forerunner of a longer book. Thank you to NetGalley and Roaring Brook Press for the ARC! All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. Likely for the first time in her school life, Vivian finds herself as part of a social circle comprised of Moxie admirers. She also starts a relationship with Seth (Nico Hiraga), a proud ally and initially the only person to know the truth about Moxie. However, Vivian’s relationship with Claudia begins to suffer, as both of them start to feel that they increasingly have fewer things in common with each other.
