The brushing coach divides your mouth into 6 sections, 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and it is challenging to get all the sections clean in just 2 minutes. I found myself brushing for at least 30 more seconds each time to try to get my cleaning score up. I guess this is a good incentive to brush longer. The iO gave us a bit of confusion in our battery test. We ran a lab test to see how many times we could get through the 2-minute Daily Clean cycle on one charge. It surprised us by giving us 124 sessions on a single charge. This is about 60 days of brushing, which is way higher than the advertised 2-week run time. From an overall space point of view, I don’t believe there is really a great deal in it between the case for the Series 7 and 9. I haven’t done the maths. The key benefit of the magnetic charger is it can fully recharge the iO7’s battery in about 3 hours. That’s about a quarter of the time it normally takes to charge an electric toothbrush. While Oral-B has partnered with schemes such as TerraCycle in some countries, it does not yet have its own recycling scheme for used brush heads or faulty products.

Overall, brush head reminders are a feature that are nice-to-have, but not critical. If you’re organized enough you can simply use a recurring calendar reminder. The fact that they are included on each iO model means you don’t need to factor this feature too heavily into your choice of iO brush models. Battery life should be similar, but premium models are inconsistent

The equipped quad pacer is accurate, vibrating every 30 seconds to help guide you through quadrants of your mouth as you brush. Another nice feature of the iO is that you can change the brushing time, and the quad pacer will adjust automatically to your new time. And if you need to brush longer, the iO will keep running for a full 5 minutes before shutting off automatically. Battery life Although both have 5 cleaning modes, they are different. The iO5 has daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense and whitening, whilst the iO6 has daily clean, sensitive, intense, whitening and gum care. The iO5 has super sensitive whilst the iO6 has gum care.The iO9 and 10 can hold the handle and 1 brush head only. This is because you can charge the brush inside the case. There is no battery in the case to do this. Instead, you connect the supplied proprietary power adapter. By opting for the iO Series 6 rather than the iO7, you are likely to save yourself a fair amount of money. With just 2 buttons and a display, the handle looks very clean. You don’t have different textured surfaces like some. It certainly makes the iO7 stand out from the crowd, but in all reality what you can do on the screen is really quite limited. A number of settings like the brush language, Bluetooth connectivity and light ring can be accessed, but more settings and choices are available from the app.
