Bezel-less’ is a bit of a daft description for the design of a television. Hisense isn’t the only company to use the word – but it’s just as nonsensical here as it is everywhere else. Of course the 65U7KQTUK has bezels around its screen – but they are, at least, nice and thin. See the screen from the front, and there’s really not much bezel visible at all. Even in profile, the screen surround is only a touch over 5mm. And it’s made of aluminium, which gives a mildly up-market appearance and feel. Console gaming enjoys all of this good stuff, too. The ability to describe contrasts properly makes lighting effects really pop, and the seemingly limitless colour palette makes games look their best too. And, of course, the impressive refresh rate means judder or tearing is never an issue. Have you got a source of native 4K content? Ideally with some HDR action involved? If so, you can get the best out of the Hisense U7K - and no matter if you’re using a video streaming service, a current-gen games console, or a UHD Blu-ray player, the Hisense’s best is very agreeable indeed.

Gamers are further indulged by half of the Hisense’s four HDMI inputs, as two of them are at 2.1 standard and compatible with 4K/144Hz, VRR, AMD Freesync Premium and ALLM. Gamers also get a ‘Game Bar’, which is a pop-up menu showing a lot of game-relevant information that you’d otherwise have to leave the game to access.Unlike 2022’s U8H Mini LED model for the UK, the U7K sports the same core screen specifications as its US counterpart. Which is very good news, as it means there’s no repeat of the unfortunate UK U8H situation that found it sporting a low-contrast IPS panel compared with the VA panel of its US equivalent, as well as far fewer local dimming zones. The Hisense U7K is a good-looking TV - as much as any TV can be described that way, at least. From dead ahead its bezels are very slim, and even in profile they’re just 5mm - and they’re made of aluminium, which makes for a mildly up-market feel. Overall set depth is 77mm, which means this isn’t the wall-hangingest TV you ever saw - but it’s VESA-compatible and so that's easy enough to achieve if you fancy. It weighs a bit less than 20kg, so shouldn’t be a burden on your plastering. Hisense also now provides a dedicated Game menu screen when you’re in play mode, from which you can switch to ultra-wide aspect ratios for compatible PC games or adjust the brightness of dark picture areas exclusively, to make hidden enemies easier to spot. Finally on the gaming front, the U7K takes just 13.1ms to render 60Hz graphics when running in its Game preset – a low enough number to make it hard for you to blame screen lag for coming last in a Call Of Duty deathmatch. Dolby Vision IQ takes Dolby Vision to the next level, making it the ultimate HDR-type picture processor. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit.
Hisense U7K review: Mini LED masterclass – without the - T3
The U7K instantly reveals that Hisense has learned the hard lessons from its 2022 UK Mini LED debut, delivering a picture that substantially outperforms last year’s U8H – despite the U7K sitting a rung lower in 2023’s range. So yes, as I may have already mentioned: this is a specification that’s out of proportion to the asking price. Picture Quality It accompanies its punchy visuals with solid smarts and raucous sound, too – all for an unusually affordable price by Mini LED TV standards. The U7K’s pictures are far from shy and retiring – but they’re positively wall flowers compared to the brashness and sheer loudness of its 40W 2.1 speaker system.It’s simple enough to rearrange apps according to preference, and the algorithms don’t take too long to start recommending stuff you might actually be interested in watching. And the VIDAA Free channel has some worthwhile stuff in amongst the dross, too – I was certainly pleased to be served The Limey during the course of this test.

Hisense TVs with Quantum Dot technology are called QLED by the company. Other TVs, like this one, are called ULED – which refers to TVs with ‘ultra-wide colour gamut’, ‘ultra local dimming’, ‘ultra 4K resolution’ and ‘ultra smooth motion rate’ – at least three of which are also offered by its QLED TVs. ULED TVs don’t always have Quantum Dot technology – this one does, but it’s not a QLED TV, it’s ULED. Just because we’ve all got used to Hisense products being very aggressively priced relative to a) their specification and b) their most obvious rivals, that doesn’t make it any less notable.
As well as Dolby Vision and Vision IQ, this Hisense 65” TV also offers multi-format HDR – including HDR10+. HDR10+ offers scene-by-scene HDR mastering for the truest, most accurate HDR picture technology. Each scene is optimised, meaning the maximum amount of detail is shown – even in the brightest or darkest moments. The slight blooming becomes much less noticeable, too, if you maintain a little ambient or bias lighting in your room. Many TV brands, including giants LG, Samsung and Sony, only tend to support either HDR10+ or Dolby Vision, not both. So it’s great to see Hisense leaving industry politics behind and simply ensuring that the U7K is equipped to receive the best version of any content you pipe into it.
