Hellraiser Trilogy Box Set Blu-ray - Arrow Films UK

It took another four years for a third Hellraiser outing to materialise on the big screen and this time around the focus was squarely on lead Cenobite, Pinhead (Doug Bradley). With the franchise under new ownership following the collapse of original production company New World, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth attempts to reshape the franchise into something a little more mainstream, recasting Pinhead as a typical supernatural bogeyman. Brand new and exclusive 4K restorations of Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and Hellraiser: Bloodline by Arrow Films from the original camera negatives Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser: (HD 1:29:17) Comprised of vintage and new interview material, this is really and truly the definitive making-of documentary about the film. Featuring interviews with the cast and crew, it's an exhaustive look at the film and it's legacy all these years later. Doug Bradley, in particular, is a great contributor as he had been a part of the franchise for nearly 20 years and offers up a lot of perspective of where the series started and how it progressed.

Film: A Horror Tale, Barker's 'Hellraiser' ". The New York Times. 20 September 1987 . Retrieved 3 October 2015. In the 1980s, Clive Barker changed the face of horror fiction, throwing out the rules to expose new vistas of terror and beauty, expanding the horizons for every genre writer who followed him. With Hellraiser, his first feature film, he did the same for cinema. This is a lovingly crafted boxset for fans. The box is sturdy and beautiful and each individual case has unique, original artwork - specially designed for this release! Stunning. Around 200 years later, John Merchant has built the building witnessed at the end of Hellraiser III. Puzzle Boxes are prominently displayed atop the fireplace during interviews featuring the Auditor of the Stygian Inquisition.Thankfully, with Peter Atkins returning on scripting duties, the film does at least manage to mine some interesting material along the way, furthering the investigation into Pinhead’s origins that began with its predecessor and giving the Cenobite plenty of elegant soliloquies that help give at least an impression of some intelligence at work in the production process. But then the Pinhead’s batch of new Cenobites turn up for the film’s final act and it all goes off the rails. In 1987, master of horror Clive Barker unleashed Hellraiser upon unsuspecting audiences – launching what has proven to be one of the genre's most enduring franchises and creating an instant horror icon in the figure of Pinhead in the process. Leviathan: The Story of Hellbound: Hellraiser II: (HD 2:00:46) Like it's predecessor documentary, this is an exhaustive and impressive making of feature. Every aspect of the production is examined ranging from the success of the first film and the drive to showcase and expand the world of the cenobites. It's very interesting to hear the genesis of the ideas behind the film, why Barker wasn't as heavily involved, and how Director Tony Randel managed his first big gig. Unboxing Hellraiser – brand new visual essay celebrating the Lament Configuration by genre author Alexandra Benedict (The Beauty of Murder) Carried over from previous releases are audio commentaries (two for each film); archival Making of… featurettes; numerous interviews; EPKs, trailers, TV spots and photo galleries. As mentioned above, we also get both the theatrical and uncut versions of Hellraiser III: Hell of Earth. For me, 'Hellraiser' is an exceptional piece of modern gothic horror. By playing with themes and ideas found within Dante's Inferno and putting a unique spin on the vampire mythos, 'Hellraiser' became a bloody, disgusting, and at times uncomfortable horror movie favorite. It also happened to be my introduction to what could be described as BDSM culture. This was a pre-internet era, after all, I couldn't just Google the stuff like kids can do today. I had to rent violent horror movies to understand that there was a subsection of the population that took pleasure in pain - at least controlled amounts of it. The thing that I always loved about the original 'Hellraiser' film is that it was - at least to me - about addiction and the effects it has on family. This is obviously a very loose interpretation but it's applicable. Uncle Frank has a problem that he ropes his brother's wife into and the results tear apart the entire family. On top of the blood, the guts, and the liberal usage of maggots and offal to depict some truly gut-churning imagery, 'Hellraiser' was a horrific movie and scary because it hit home. The terrors of Pinhead and the Cenobites were localized, they were intimate to the immediate characters and the rest of society was unaffected by these events. As a result, I became a Clive Barker fan and began reading his works.Hellraiser was initially banned in Ontario by the Ontario Film and Video Review Board. [20] [21] By a 3-2 majority vote, the film was deemed "not approved in its entirety as it contravenes community standards". It was banned because of its "brutal, graphic violence with blood-letting throughout, horror, degradation and torture". [21] In August 1987, Hellraiser was passed by the Ontario Film Review Board, but only after several cuts were made to the film. New World Mutual Pictures of Canada cut about 40 seconds to get the film passed with an R rating. Thirty-five seconds of an extended torture scene featuring hooks pulling apart a body and face were removed, as well as a scene of squirming rats nailed to a wall. [22] Critical response [ edit ] Hellraiser: Resurrection: (SD 24:26) This is a collection of vintage interviews with Braker, Doug Bradley, Ashley Laurence, Bob Keen and other players in the film.

The puzzle draws the player onward until suddenly the puzzle is solved and the gateway is opened. As the puzzle is nearly completed, the sound of a large bell can be heard tolling mournfully. The sound comes from the realm of the Cenobites, and announces their impending arrival. Once the gate is opened, the box begins reassembling itself. [12] Editor Tony Randel then suggested Christopher Young as a replacement for Coil for the film's score.
