Ok so I replaced genuine BMW battery 12V 90Ah 900A (EN) - 160RC 900CCA (SAE) with replacement Energizer 95Ah 850A. My 'garbage' OEM battery has been in my 2011 since 10/2010 production date, and is still going strong. (I know I am jinxing myself by making that statement, but I plan on replacing the battery proactively soon, since it is now 6.9 years old!)

Also, when the battery starts to go, funky things happen as the car shuts things down to conserve power: bluetooth went out, A/c valves wouldn't open on start up. Since the original lead acid E90 battery tends to last 5-6 years, I think for most people a regular replacement lead acid battery probably works just fine.
