About this deal

Dune concerns the messianic figure of one Paul Atreides (McLachlan in his first major role), heir apparent to the "good guy" royal family intended, and it is full of some very appealing performances, from then new star Kyle McLachlan to a whole host of stellar supporting players, Dune 4K Blu-ray delivers stunning video and reference-quality audio in this exceptional Blu-ray release Though its initial reception ensured that Lynch largely eschewed mainstream filmmaking for the rest of his career, Dune has since been rightly re-evaluated as one of the most startlingly original and visionary science fiction films of the 1980s. Its astonishing production design and visual effects can now be appreciated anew in this spellbinding 4K restoration, accompanied by hours of comprehensive bonus features.

landed in the lap of perhaps the most unlikely name ever associated with the property as it slowly roasted in the fires of development hell: David Having said that, there is still a dupiness to some of these effects that one just can’t get around. There are also a handful of shots that look a little softer compared to the rest of the film, which otherwise looks razor sharp and crisp,to where even individual grains of sand show up, though so do the wire effects around the floating Baron (something that I assume was hidden better on previous home video releases). Digitally, this presentation is also about as clean as one could hope, grain rendered impeccably, leading to a crisp, photographic look. Colours also look sharp, with some vibrant greens (like those found in the Baron’s lair) and some great pops of reds and violet, with the latter making a strong showing in that Lynch-ian scene around a milking cat! Even Sting’s red hair jumps out at you. Visually, Dune is quite outstanding, building detail upon detail; the production is more akin to historical epic than science fiction. With the full budget being there on the screen. Lynch creates immersive, believable worlds with striking imagery that lingers in the mind, bathing his universe in light and fantastic creations. Add to this a deep and meaningful score produced by Toto with overtones of Vangelis and Holst and you have an emotional involvement far beyond the normal science fiction fodder. This is not a “Star Wars”; this is adult Deleted Scenes with Introduction by Raffaella de Laurentiis (HD; 2:52 for the intro, 14:21 for the deleted scenes) subjects Paul to a pain control test which he passes. Through his life, Paul has also been closely guided by several mentors including weaponsuniverses ever put on film. It retains a positively Lynchian vision, despite the director's insistence that the final version barely resembles what he Nolan, Tarantino and Villeneuve - there are only a handful of filmmakers who still make original movies on a grand scale, and when the man behind Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 took aim at Frank Herbert's expansive Dune saga, it was destined to be an epic ride. Arrow nicely fills the set with its customary array of extra features, a large portion of which are on the UHD. This two-disc release ships in a standard dual-hubbed keepcase with attractive cover artwork (if you like cast collages), a matching matte-finish

delivering a dense, refined, and more immediately impressive image that will play exceptionally well on larger displays.
