The quality of the De’Longhi Autentica Plus’s milky drinks largely depends on whether you have the technique down or not. What it takes responsibility for is plain coffee – and that’s it. Before using the machine, make two cups of coffee. Choose the preparation method from pre-ground beans, but don’t use the actual pre-ground coffee. There are reasons why hardline coffee snobs might consider this a somewhat ‘basic’ model. However, as a lifestyle machine that gets you coffee shop-grade drinks with none of the fiddle and little of the clean-up, it’s perfect. The De’Longhi Autentica Plus doesn’t offer a thousand presets, instead offering essentially an espresso and ‘long’ coffee, which can then be tweaked in terms of strength and size. And temperature if you dive into the machine’s system properly. This is only necessary if you’re going to add cold milk to your coffee, though. There’s also a custom My Coffee preset.

Usability and performance If you specifically want a fully automatic bean to cup machine that has a milk carafe built in then we prefer this model over the Delonghi ECAM 23.460.S . At first glance they may seem similar but on closer inspection, this one has more to offer so if they are available at or around the same price this one offers much more. If you have fairly limited space to work with, the De’Longhi Autentica Plus is a bit of a star. However, if you have plenty of the stuff, there are some cheaper models in the Philips Saeco range to consider. Verdict The De’Longhi Autentica Cappuccino ETAM 29.660 is a one-stop shop for coffee making. In essence, it is a bean to cup coffee machine with a large hopper for storing beans and an onboard burr grinder to crush them to your desired ground size on demand.It is one of the simplest in the Delonghi range to set up and use. Some other models have more advanced features, but buyers do complain that they are over complex to use. The first step to quality coffee is to use fresh beans. The next important step is to be able to grind those beans to the right grain. This model has a very high quality integrated burr grinder. The De’Longhi Autentica Plus is a bean-to-cup machine that’s easy to use while still giving you the flexibility to deal with all kinds of drinks. Where some restrict you to certain kinds of coffee, here you can make cappuccinos and espressos as well as tea, hot chocolate. Even bovril. Tip: pour water into the water tank of your coffee machine first, then add the descaler (unless it’s specified otherwise in the manual of your coffee machine).
The coffees it produces are consistently tasty – whichever way you take it. The milk frother is effective. A minor gripe would be that the milk on the machine’s latte setting could do with being a couple of degrees hotter – but it pretty much nails everything else and is well priced compared to market rivals. The ETAM 29.660.SB is still very much part of Delonghi’s ongoing range of machines but due to the introduction of other products to the range like the Delonghi Prima Donna S which has taken over the mantle of Delonghi’s luxury coffee machine, there has been a dramatic price reduction on this product. Give some time or the mixture to do its magic –leave it on for at least 5 minutes. Later repeat the procedure at least 3 times. Delonghi make a number of bean to cup coffee machines and this Autentica model has been designed to be compact and it certainly has a great look to it. A few of the additional features are a Doppio+ button that gives you a nice strong double espresso with just one touch instead of having to mess around with the personalisation functions. You also have a “long coffee button” on this model that provides a one-touch Americano. You get rapid steam on the 29.660 and not on the 23.460 making heating and frothing much easier and more effective on this model and also Delonghi’s cappuccino system for the perfect frothing which you don’t get on the 23.460. So at the same price or a few pounds more this one is definitely better.
