About this deal

The context is clearly about the judgment coming upon Israel. This judgment is elsewhere in Luke expressed in terms of fire: Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. for indeed, the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ People in Jerusalem (represented by the women) were mourning Jesus' death, which they saw as an injustice. Jesus agrees, warning them to weep not for him, but for their future generation ('your children'). He tells them that the injustice was occurring against a living tree: himself. But he ominously warns what will happen to a dead tree, people who are genuinely deserving of the kind of punishment he was about to face. Within the eschatology of the Synoptics, Jesus is here implying a divine judgment will come within that generation, which he likens to a dry tree, which will go up in flames. This concept is further corroborated by the quotation of Hosea 10.8, a passage about the destruction of Israel, in Luke 23.30.

the Song of Solomon, why is it said that we shouldn’t In the Song of Solomon, why is it said that we shouldn’t

I wonder if, as a Daughter of Zion, I truly recognize God’s intense love for me; that I’m his and, thus, protected from the enemy. I’m a daughter emerging from the promise God made to his people; that he would provide a Savior for everyone who calls on his name for salvation. The preposition is missing here, which subtly increases intimacy and intensity. I feel the closeness of Lord God ready to pounce if anyone tries to hurt his daughter. Cry out and shout, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee. Saul and Jonathan, beloved and delightful in life, were not divided in death. They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. A prolonged form of the poetical makar; supremely blest; by extension, fortunate, well off. I remember the song well from my childhood. A traveling evangelist and family, who became close friends with our family, sung it many times during the years we were friends. The Context of Luke 23:21 is Jesus, who is now carrying His cross through the streets of Jerusalem on His way to Golgotha. He has been beaten beyond recognition:
