About this deal

CIF is a mild abrasive cleaner, fab for things that need a bit of help and there is nothing better for stainless steel. However there is downsides, it can be too hard for some stuff, I.e it will scratch plastic and “dull” high shine plastic surfaces (baths etc). Also in recent years there have been some major environmental concerns due to the use of “micro beads” in cif. Another effect of using harsh chemicals within a drainage system that uses a septic tank is that the chemicals can leach out into groundwater. This can have serious effects on wildlife and surrounding ecosystems. I buy up all of Home Bargains cleaning aisle every week in the hope that all the cleaning products i buy might magically club together and clean the house themselves. Hasn't happened so far so need some advice. I only added cif (or other generic cream cleaners) to my cleaning armoury earlier this year. I know it's very chemical heavy (compared to the method stuff I try to use for the rest of the house) but I find the lemon scent and slight abrasiveness very satisfying! Because I'm a bit sad like that. What kind of bleach do I need? I want to clean the plastic bath mat, white plug and drain catcher - I've only ever bought toilet bleach - can I use that for general cleaning or do I need separate bleach?

I don't use cif. I think it's a general multipurpose cleaner with the bonus of being slightly abrasive (so you could use it in kitchens/bathrooms) but I don't think it's a disinfectant and I seem to remember it leaves a residue hence why I don't use it you and your family safe. Our Anti-Bac Spray is safe for food preparation areas so you can clean with confidence, and contains cedarwood extract for a fresh fragrance.I put neat bleach in a spray bottle and spray over tiles and grout after cleaning to make sure any marks and germs are gone, plus occasionally add a capful to a white wash. Water-based cleaners are generally absolutely fine to use with septic tanks, as water is the main ingredient, diluting any chemicals that could harm bacteria. To see if a cleaning product is water-based, take a look at the ingredients – water will be the first ingredient. A number of household chemicals are fine, but there are some chemicals that can cause damage to your septic tank and potentially even kill the bacteria that breaks down solids within your septic tank.

Liquid drain cleaners are generally fine to use as a one-off occasion, as they should become quite diluted, reducing the impact they can have on the bacteria within your septic tank. Moreover, always try to choose eco-friendly products wherever possible, as these have been developed to have minimal impact on the environment, which means they typically have weak or no chemicals that could damage the bacteria within septic tanks. Homemade septic tank cleaning productsGenerally, multipurpose household cleaners are fine to be used in homes with a septic tank, but conservative use is key. Ensure your multipurpose surface cleaners and laundry cleaners are mild, and ideally phosphate-free, as these products will not contain the harsh chemicals that typically damage bacteria within your septic tank. Bleach is bleach (sodium hypochlorite) doesn’t matter what bottle it is in (one designed for toilets or not) I use bleach for everything : there is no better germ killer, it kills every known germ on the planet, and is perfect for killing mould and whitening laundry. However, bleach is NOT a cleaner (it’s a disenfectant). So I use it in a soulution of water with washing up liquid with a cloth. Never mix bleach with anything but washing up liquid (especially never with either vinegar or ammonia). I use Magic Erasers for almost everything. They're great for shining taps and taking soapy scummy cloudy residue from bathroom tiles and shower doors (I hope it's not just me who has that! ). They remove stains/marks/crayons from walls and from white shoes! Anything, really. However, we would not recommend using foaming drain cleaners or solid drain cleaners. What’s more, drain cleaners should not be used regularly on a weekly or monthly basis, as the chemicals are extremely caustic. However, we then like to go a little deeper to explore more detail about the product by looking at products in the same category as Cif Multipurpose Ultrafast With Bleach. That then tells us that there are 994 products in the General Household category at The Range.
