About this deal

This tent has a 3000mm PU coating plus a sheltered side door - so it'll keep you dry in stormy weather. Its air vent helps to prevent condensation inside too! An obvious benefit of a pyramid tent is that it only requires one pole. A further design feature of my tents is the simple loadbearing apex hem. This easily allows any bush pole to be used as the pole and because it can protrude through the hem that will close tightly around the pole, it does not need precision trimming to a particular length. Even better the tent can be suspended by the hem drawcord from a suitable overhanging branch to provide pole-less convenience and flexibility. A bush pole can support a pyramid tent via the drawcord in a loadbearing apex hem. If the suspension cord is run over a fork in the branch above the tent apex, the tent canopy tension can be adjusted from inside the tent during wet weather when silnylon fabric stretches considerably. A pyramid tent that is designed to be suspended from an overhanging snow gum, so that the snowpit can be excavated without the need to have a tent pole in the pit. A small tent stove is mounted up above the side of the snow pit. Ultralight pole Bias to straight grain tent panels. So far, most of my pyramid tents have been unconventionally cut out and sewn so that each radial seam combines a straight grain side and a bias cut side. This intentionally made all seams have a uniform and limited stretch. It is a tedious process that has worked as intended without the need for catenary seam curving. However, it does not let the bias grain stretch naturally and become taught as it otherwise would do. It leaves the adjacent bias grain fabric a little ‘baggy’. “Like the sails on an old square-rigged sailing ship. This effect can be seen, in the above photo of the silver polyester tent. (On the cross-grain fabric, to the right-hand side of the centre seam, and on the cross-grain fabric, adjacent to the right-hand side of the left ridge seam line.) Strong winds amplify this bagginess. We STRONGLY suggest you pitch the shelter and test before a trip. Set up before a good rain or spray with a garden hose nozzle arching up in the air and down on the shelter simulating rain for at least 15min. Touch up or resealing may be needed eventually.

The other four panels can be cut very efficiently as shown below (The conventional cut). Square pyramid tent panel layout to have straight grain along the long right-angle side of the triangle. As opposed to the GeerTop PYRAMID, the IMP has just one side opening entrance, but along with greater internal floor space it also has a fairly decent size vestibule area for some gear storage. The flysheet at the front of the tent can be fully opened up if desired - see photos. Just bear in mind that a single-pole tent isn’t necessarily the strongest tent. You’ll have to make sure that your guylines are set up properly to ensure the tent is stable and the fabric remains taut and waterproof. With slim pegging tabs and a central top loop, the tent can be pitched in 2 ways - either suspended from a branch/overhead point using guy rope; or propped up from underneath using just 1 Hiking Pole. The manufacturer recommends a walking pole height of 120cm, however, we ended up actually preferring our walking poles set at 125cm. This does two things: firstly it tensions the inner tent slightly better, and secondly it slightly raises the flysheet slightly from the ground, which when pegged evenly allows for better ventilation. But this is something that you can adjust to suit yourself and indeed weather conditions.

The pattern and layout of the tent panels can at first seem complex, but the pattern for the square pyramid can be distilled down to a single piece pattern that can be used from an ‘A’ side or the reverse ‘B’ side. This ultra-fine mesh means you will be protected from every insect - from the mosquito to the miniscule Scottish midge! Read our “Options” tabs to learn more about all the great options that can be added to this ultra-tough, two-person shelter! FEATURES With slim pegging tabs and a central top loop, the tent can be pitched in 2 ways – either suspended from a branch/overhead point using guy rope; or propped up from underneath using just 1 Hiking Pole. Camping Hygiene & Comfort Whether you are out on a day hike or looking to go out into the wild for a few days, it’s important to keep yourself and your kit clean. Those home comforts that you can take with you can really help. Wood to Water have compiled some of our favourite camping clean and comfort items to keep you smiling when you are out in the wild. Read More >>A pyramid tent, often referred to as a ‘mid’ (short for pyramid), is a type of tent that is characterized by its distinctive shape and design. As the name suggests, a pyramid tent takes the form of a pyramid, with a single pole in the center supporting the structure and the tent fabric sloping down on all sides from the peak. This design results in a tent with a high center point, providing ample headroom, and steep walls that effectively shed wind, rain, and snow. Even if you don’t already use trekking poles and therefore have to add two to your kit, trekking pole tents still make for a lightweight shelter. A lot of trekking pole tents are under 1kg. If you add the weight of two poles at say 500g for the two, you still have a shelter that only weighs 1.5kg. That’s pretty good. However, remember that the trekking pole weight needs to be taken into account, unless you already carry and use trekking poles. This is kind of obvious, but still overlooked and often glossed-over in some campers’ eagerness to tell people how ultralight their tent is. Outer only as a shelter, however can be used as an outer with mesh inner when used in conjunction with the DD SuperLight – Pathfinder mesh inner (sold separately).

Read More >> Again, this is where erecting this tent a few times will definitely be beneficial, as it gives you chance to experiment and indeed iron out any initial erection issues... did I just say that? Unless you remember or know exactly where the 120cm length setting is on your walking poles, we would suggest marking them to make life easier, this will then give you a baseline to adjust from should you wish. Walking Gaiters Walking gaiters offer a range of benefits that can help improve your walking experience. They are designed to keep your trousers clean and prevent rain and moisture from creeping up your leg. Read more With a full bug mesh inner, our IMP is really better suited as a UK summer, 2/3 season tent, but of course this depends on just how the individual wants to use it.Condensation in tents is caused by moisture from your breath and body heat. To minimize condensation, ensure your tent is well-ventilated. Many pyramid tents have a vent at the peak to allow for airflow. Also, setting up your tent in a breezy area can help.
