About this deal

Apply Jelly Beam on full lid using fingertips for a glowing gaze or apply to the center of the lid (on its own or on top of eyeshadow) to make eyes pop. Using a brush, apply on the inner corner of eyes for an extra shimmery stare. Aside from giving off a luminous glow, cream highlighters are pretty easy to use, too. “You can get creative with how you want your skin to reflect light with cream highlighters. I suggest using your fingers so that you can warm up the product into the skin. A sponge would typically absorb too much of the highlighter,” advises Scibelli. Using highlighter and contour together can create a well-defined and sculpted makeup look by playing around with light and shadows. Here's how to combine these two makeup techniques: The Revolution Jewel Collection is divided into three sub collections; silver, rose gold and gold and then each of the three sub collections has three products; a Jelly Highlighter, an Eyeshadow Palette and a Lip Topper. From looking at swatches online I opted for theRevolution Jewel Jelly Highlighter from the ‘Silver’ collection as it was the palest but the Rose Gold and Bronze trios do look beautiful for richer skintones.

To use a face highlighter, first choose a shade that is one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. Apply it to the high points of your face, such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bone, and cupid's bow. Then, blend it out with a brush or sponge for a natural finish. Since the highlighter is meant to be lighter than your skin tone, it will add volume to the areas applied. Both Horn and Louzado caution against using too much highlighter on the tip of the nose, the forehead, chin and apples of the cheeks. Mix a pea size amount of product (or more, depending on the level of shimmer desired) with Rose Gold Elixir and apply on body (arms, legs, shoulders) for all over glow and full body hydration. Generally, cream highlighters are formulated with more pigments to create an intense, dewy, and overall brighter look,” says Enrique Torres, Ulta Beauty skincare expert and aesthetician based in Chicago. “Some common ingredients we’ve seen over the years include beeswax, vitamin E, coconut oil, mango butter, and castor oil,” says Torres. Drugstore highlighters have become more and more comparable to prestige formulas because the category, in general, has become a bigger focal point for brands,” explains New York City makeup artist and beauty expert Neil Scibelli. “Keep in mind too that mass brands have the budget for development and testing, meaning they're able to nail down the formulas and create amazing products, all while keeping the price super accessible,” he adds.

APPLYING SHEER VS PIGMENTED HIGHLIGHTER MAKEUP:

Master Chrome Jelly Highlighter is a water-based metallic formula infused with pearlescent pigments that effortlessly melt onto the skin for a buildable and reflective glow. But when you're increasing the pigment, apply only in the areas you want to emphasise. “You don't want to apply it all over, less really is more here,” says Horn. “The simple scientific logic is the play of light and shadow to create an optical illusion. Think of a sun-kissed evening and observe how the light falls flatteringly on your face. This is what you would like to recreate." Key makeup artist for the New York City Ballet, Neil Scibelli is a fan of the beauty essential. “I like working with cream highlighters because they offer a glow-from-within look and a more skin-like finish,” he says. “They also contain light-reflecting properties to give the skin that dewy, highlighted finish.” Tap on and blend out into the high points of the face with a finger or synthetic buffing brush. The silky formula can also be mixed with your favourite foundation to boost all over radiance.“ But it’s important to note that cream-based makeup products like highlighters and blushes can cause blemishes—a key consideration for those with acne-prone skin. “If you have an oily, combination, or an acne-prone skin type, you’re more likely to break out from cream highlighters,” says Torres. “The creams and oils in highlighter products can cause the skin to become congested with buildup and dirt, resulting in pesky acne and irritation,” he explains.

Brands are well aware of this obsession too, which is likely why we've witnessed so many new jelly highlighters hitting the shelves recently. The trendy glow-givers are now more accessible than ever, with drugstore mainstays like E.L.F. and Maybelline, and prestige options such as Chanel and Farsali offering their own jelly-inspired iterations. Ahead, we're sharing our favorites. Jelly Beam’s innovative texture applies like jelly, but sets like a powder, leaving behind the elusive wet-satin glow without the slip and slide typically associated with liquid and cream highlighters. This formula’s concentrated, buildable pigmentation takes you from a naturally lit-from-within glow, to a show stopping beaming glaze, and every level of luminous in between. Use alone, or layered with powder, liquid or cream products, for desired effect. Take a pea size amount of Jelly Beam into palm of hand, and add 1-3 drops of Rose Gold Elixir. Rub palms together until mixed. Pat gently all over damp face for an all-over illuminated, natural glow. Proceed with makeup application if desired. Always start with applying your foundation and concealer to ensure you have a smooth canvas for the rest of your makeup. While combining your highlighter and contour, it's important to start light and build up. Applying too much of either product can result in an overly dramatic or artificial appearance. Slightly tap finger into Jelly Beam, and swipe onto center of lips (on top of lip color). Blend in a patting motion for pouty, full-looking lips. Mix a pea-size amount of Jelly Beam with gloss to create a shimmering top coat. You can start with a glowy base from the get-go. “You can mix a drop of luminising liquid with foundation and use a damp beauty sponge to blend it seamlessly all over for that lit-from-within look.” To start, prime skin with FARSALI Unicorn Essence (and, if desired, apply makeup as usual). Swipe Jelly Beam to high points of cheek with a finger, and blend out with finger (using a patting motion) or brush. Can also be applied to collarbone and shoulders for extra pop.

Revolution describe the Dazzling shade as being a ‘Iced Silver Shimmer’ which I feel describes it very well as it’s very icy and silver. I don’t find the shade to be very flattering on the skin but that’s down to just my personal preference as it looks exactly how Revolution have described, but I didn’t expect it to look like a straight up iced silver.

The water based jelly with suspended pearlescent pigments melts into skin for seamless application and a breathable shimmery glow that wears all day. Blend, and then blend again. "On the cheekbone, make sure you always apply with round movements so the effect will be diffused and natural. We don’t want to have a ‘line' of highlighter next to our eyes,” Horn adds. If you’re looking to add a natural-looking radiance to your complexion, you’ll definitely want to consider a cream highlighter. The best cream highlighters offer a dewy, radiant finish that enhances your skin instantly without too much shimmer.

If your skin is on the oily side, you may be wary of adding more dewiness. If your skin is on the oily side, “Mix one or two drops with your foundation,” says Synnott. Even people with acne-prone skin can benefit from a glow. “Anyone with textured skin or dryer skin will benefit from the smoothing effect of a liquid or gel highlighter versus powders,” says Lujan. If your skin is on the dry side, “Mix one or two drops with your face oil,” says Synnott. But if you want a more impactful glow, simply layering on your favorite highlighter on top of your foundation will bring it to a new level. Bejewel your skin with pearlescent Revolution Jewel Collection Jelly Highlighter. The unique bouncy gel texture melts into the skin to create a wet look sheen that sets like a powder. Richly pigmented with ultra-fine shimmer, these highlighters can be used to create subtle radiance or layered to a luminous strobe effect on the eyes and face. For contouring, select a shade that is one or two shades darker than your skin tone. Apply it to the hollows of your cheeks, along your hairline, and under your jawline to create dimension. Blend it well to avoid any harsh lines. Create a harmonious look, make sure to blend both the contour and highlighter seamlessly. Use a clean makeup brush or a beauty sponge to softly blend the edges of the contour lines into your skin, avoiding any harsh lines. Similarly, blend the highlighter to ensure a natural, radiant glow. True story: You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get an amazing highlighter. Sure, there are plenty of pricey, prestige options out there (many of which are amazing), but whether you’re working with a tighter makeup budget, don’t necessarily use a highlighter regularly, or want to try out a new one for the first time, there are plenty of amazing options to be found at the drugstore.
