About this deal

What is Eggshell paint? A question that we get asked alot and there are not stupid questions here on DIY Boss. Just helpful advice and no judgement.

A tough, cleanable emulsion with a smooth, even eggshell finish that protects against scrubs, scuffs and stains for ultimate durability. For use on interior walls, ceilings. For the best results, it’s recommended to work on small sections at a time to make sure the coat is applied in a thin and even layer. Fix all drips before moving on to the next section and continue the procedure until the full surface is covered. If the surface is new or bare, priming is essential. Choose a suitable product that is specifically formulated for either wood or metal and apply it as instructed. Prepare the surface before painting with sugar soap or any household cleaning products and let dry. Open up any windows to ensure there is plenty of ventilation in the room. This paint is low odour but it does have a slight smell to it.The mildly glossier finish of satin makes it slightly easier to clean and maintain than eggshell, but in reality there isn't a great deal of difference. Satin is easier to wipe clean while eggshell typically needs a little more effect to clean.

Expect a great paint coverage of around 16m2 per Litre with this Eggshell paint so you can achieve around 40m2 with a 2.5L tin. Also available in a 750ml tin for smaller home improvement projects means there’s a good selection. If you want a very low sheen with a soft touch finish that isn’t quite matt then eggshell is the one for you. If you want something with a little more lustre then satin is the better choice. But consider how it fits in with the style of your home. Magnola can be a great choice for contrasting ceilings with walls and brown and greens can blend well for a more rustic look in your home. Use a paint in neutral shades if the room is small or furnished in traditional style. Contemporary choices include ivory, light grey, silver and cream. It is suitable for doors, windows, skirting boards, furniture, cupboards, kitchen cabinets, wall panels and radiators. Can be applied directly onto bare or previously painted wood, metal, melamine and MDF surfaces without using a Primer first. Ultra-durable and resists everyday stains and scratches.

Application: Brush, roller or spray. STIR THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE. Surfaces should be mist coated with an appropriate Dulux Trade product: Dry Wall Primer Sealer on bare surfaces and Diamond Matt or Vinyl Matt as a thinned first coat on previously painted surfaces. The normal finishing process is 2 full coats of Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell, however for significant colour change additional coats may be required. To achieve the most durable and lower sheen finish on wood, we recommend using Dulux Trade Diamond Satinwood.

You can use this paint in high-traffic areas and once dry can easily be wiped clean. Allow upto 16 hours for this paint to be touch dry and you can re-apply a second coat after around 24 hours. No undercoat is required but you may need additional coats if covering dark colours. The colour is also great. The Pure Brilliant White dries to a true white shade that doesn’t turn yellow in time. Drying to a satin finish, the paint is also easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth, maintaining the look and feel of your woodwork as new for a long time. Eggshell is great in period homes and works well on woodwork and walls, while satin is typically suited to a more modern home. Where to Use Satin and Eggshell Breatheasy technology is a key feature of this paint. Exclusive to Crown, Breatheasy symbol ensures the product is solvent-free and safe to use in poorly ventilated spaces. But this isn’t the only feature we like.Paint the horizontal sides of the frame with a firm movement from one side to another. Leave the first coat to dry as instructed before applying a second coat.

Johnstone’s Eggshell paint is our favourite budget-savvy solution. Like everything at an affordable price, the product comes with its positives and negatives. But with many more positives than negatives, the product is one of our strongly recommended buys. Expect a a drying time of around 4 hours and re-coatable in 6-8 hours. it produces a bright white finish that’s extremely durable and will achieve an attractive eggshell finish. You will get around 12m2 per Litre of paint coverage with the product available in 750ml, 2.5L and 5L tins for great choice. Convenient and pleasant to use, the paint is easy to apply with a paintbrush or roller and touch dries in two hours. A second coat can be applied after six hours if the climatic conditions are favourable. If you’re aiming to use eggshell paint on walls, choose the colour based on the luminosity of the room and pair it with the home décor. Trade paints are costly when compared to home paints but they provide a stronger, more durable finish as a result. With this trade eggshell you can expect around 16m2 per Litre coverage which is exceptional. Some interior wood and metal paints may require no undercoat when applied over a previously painted surface. If this is the case, just skip to the next step. Supplied in 5L tubs, this paint is ten times tougher than conventional matt or silk wall paint. It comes in three attractive colours and covers up to 12m²/litre. The eggshell finish is delicate and durable, while the product is easy to clean with a soft cloth. This paint results in an attractive mid-sheen finish that’s upto 10 times more stain resistant than regular water-based eggshell paints. It also claims to be 10 times tougher than vinyl silks which is very similar to the Leyland Trade Eggshell. Silk finish paints come in a wide range of traditional and contemporary colours. Before choosing the shade, consider the surface to be painted. White is one of the most popular choices for woodwork and metal, including doors, window frames and radiators. But other hues also look amazing on these materials. There isn’t a great deal of difference in the sheen between eggshell and satin, but as always when choosing a finish for your paint project, it’s a matter of personal choice.
