About this deal

Pigeons love to perch on areas that are high up on buildings to view the surrounding areas. Pipes such as water waste pipes, overflow, electrical conduits and gas line pipes are great examples of where pigeons perch on the outside of domestic and business premises. Installing Defender® Pipe Spikes will instantly stop the pigeons from being able to land and cause any further damage or mess.

Add extra rows behind the first if needed. Leave as small a gap as possible between the rows; the pins should be almost touching to prevent the pigeons or seagulls from gaining access. Leave no gap bigger than 2.5 cm anywhere to prevent a pigeon or seagull from gaining a foothold. First, make sure the strip of plastic bird spike is the correct length for the bar or director element on the aerial that you are bird-proofing. The Defender® Bird Spike strips have snappable grooves along the base so can be very easily snapped by hand to the correct size to perfectly cover the length of the bar. Every inch of the aerial should be proofed from birds especially if they already use your aerial or satellite as a perch. Once you have the correct size of bird spike, you can decide on the correct method of attachment. If you are using on a curved satellite dish, the base is flexible along the length or it can be snapped into small pieces to accommodate the curve. The Defender® Ridge Spikes have longer pins to make them suitable for seagulls as well as pigeons. These seagull deterrent spikes are the perfect way to stop seagulls from being able to access the angled ridge of your roof, this is often a highly sort after location for them as they can look for food and are up high, safe from predators. If you can get rid of pigeons and seagulls from the roof of a property they will often abandon the building altogether. Step 1 - Clean the Area: Make sure the area you are installing on is clean, dry and has no loose dirt or debris, this applies particularly to areas that you may want to use the silicone. If the area below the aerial has been heavily soiled and you would like to clean it while up on the roof, you may need to read our "How to Safely Remove Bird Droppings Guide" The good news is that they can easily be protected. There is a range of suitable Defender® Bird Spikes for this job, which will come down to the width of your timber cross beams. Most Defender® Bird Spikes are available in plastic or steel. Our steel spikes come with a 25 Year Warranty, and plastic spikes have a 15 Year Warranty. They all do the same job of humanely stopping pigeons from landing on your pergola.Defender® Ridge Spikes pins make landing uncomfortable for seagulls and other birds, without injuring them. This makes them move on to other more accessible areas. The pins themselves are extra long so cater not only for pigeons and other similar-sized birds, but also for the seagulls which have longer legs. All Defender® Stainless Steel Bird Control Products are humane and recommended by the RSPB. Step 1 - Clean the Area: It is essential to thoroughly clean and dry the area before starting installation. Dampen down the area with a disinfectant spray like Germ Clear™ Bird Droppings Disinfectant Spray and remove any loose droppings or debris. If a pigeon has already been using the area it may be heavily soiled with bird droppings. If this is the case please see our "How to safely clean bird droppings guide" guide for more in-depth cleaning advice. The Defender® Seagull Deterrent Spike can be installed by anyone who has a small amount of DIY knowledge and safe access to the area that needs protection. Step 3 - Positioning: Start at one end of the guttering and clip each piece firmly into position. Continue along the guttering making sure no gap is left between the ends of the pigeon spikes. This mechanism places the gutter strip in the centre of the gutter. It hovers above the base of the gutter, allowing for the free flow of rainwater beneath.

Step 2 - Fixing Methods: The best way to install seagull spikes is to use the specifically designed Defender® Pigeon Spike Fixing Silicone. This adhesive is formulated to create an extra strong bond with the polycarbonate base of our seagull spikes. However, the gull spike strips can also be nailed or screwed into position through the premade fixing holes along the base. They can also be cable tied in position. Defender® Ridge Roof Spikes are made in the UK, in Devon, using only the highest quality materials. Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd design and manufacture these high-quality stainless steel bird and seagull ridge roof spikes. The husband and wife team, David and Kursty Jones, ensure all the Defender® Bird Control Products are not only high quality, but also long lasting and, most importantly, 100% effective. Defender® Wide Plastic Bird and Pigeon Spikes will protect a depth of ledge up to 15 cm (6 inches). They are great for all sorts of walls, beams and ledges around your property. If the ledge is wider, you can just add a second row of spikes, leaving as small a gap as possible between the tops of the pins. Alternatively, you may prefer to use our Extra Wide Stainless Steel Bird Spike that will protect ledges of up to 22.5 cm (9 inches) - Defender® 12 Stainless Steel Bird Spikes How do wide bird spikes work? Defender® Pipe Spikes are the best way to keep pigeons off pipes around your home. These pigeon prevention spikes will stop pigeons and similar-sized birds from landing on any kind of pipe. The pigeon control spikes come ready to install and require no extra fixings or glue - you simply tighten the non-slip cable ties around the area of piping which needs protecting. Where should I use Defender® Pipe Spike? Due to the nature of bird control issues, the areas needing to be proofed will often be high up on your property and hard to access. If you intend to do the bird-proofing yourself, you must be confident using ladders and working at height. If you cannot do the work yourself, please get in touch with a roofer, pest control company or handyman to assist you.Step 3 – Fixing Methods: The Defender® Pipe Spike comes with cable ties already fixed to each end of the 333 mm strip so there is no need for glue. Sit the bird spike on the top of the pipe, wrap the cable tie around the pipe and pull through the end of the cable tie to fasten. Pull tight and it will hold the pigeon spike firm even on sloping exterior pipe work. The ends of the cable ties can be left in place or trimmed to create a neater appearance. Step 1 - Clean the Area: Before starting your Defender® Ridge Spikes installation you need to make sure that the apex ridge tiles are clean and free from moss, lichen, bird droppings and any dust or debris. This is to make sure that the silicone has a clean surface to adhere to. As an alternative to the standard 304 Grade Stainless Steel, we now have the option to offer the Defender® Wide Stainless Steel in Marine 316 Grade Stainless Steel. Due to the added Molybdenum, this steel is particularly corrosion resistant to sodium chloride which makes it able to withstand harsher environments such as exposed coastal areas. Snappable Sections This wide stainless steel spike has 9 snap points where the user can break the strip into smaller sections with their fingers, allowing the pigeon spike to fit perfectly on any size ledge. No extra tools are required.
